New Shelter News
Shelter Services
The Humane Society of Catawba County is pleased to offer monthly microchipping and rabies clinics every 3rd Saturday from 2 to 4 at the Hickory of Saturn dealership at the intersection of Robinson Road and Catawba Valley Blvd. $30 will buy you the peace of mind only permanent identification of your pet can offer. Rabies shots are $8.
We also offer a low cost spay & neuter program to pet owners from our region. Call us for detailed prices and more information. (828) 464-8878
We are continuing to add new programs and enhance our adoption program at all times. Volunteers are always needed to help with walking adopters through the shelter, routine maintenance of our temporary facility, walking dogs (every dog, every day!), socializing cats (we love our Cat Cuddlers!) and office chores. If you would like to help, come on down! All volunteers are required to complete a volunteer orientation for the safety of our animals. Dog walkers will be taught basic obedience skills to enhance the adoptability of our dogs.
We are also seeking foster homes for litters of kittens and puppies that are abandoned at the local pound.
Who We Are
The Humane Society of Catawba County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to
the general welfare of animals and operates solely on donations. We do not receive federal, state or local government funding, United Way donations, or funding from HSUS. HSCC strives to achieve our mission of making
our community a better place for people and animals by: sheltering animals and
adopting them into caring, responsible homes; providing humane education and community
information services; endeavoring to reduce animal overpopulation; serving as
an advocate for animals and promoting humane standards; enhancing the relationship
between animals and people and fostering a respect for all life through compassionate
actions.
We rescue most of our animals from the nearby county animal shelter, which must euthanize after 5 days due to constant overcrowding. HSCC IS A NO-KILL SHELTER. The animals you see on our pet list will live with us until they are adopted. When we have space, we can take in animals from the public with a suggested $50 give-up donation (more if you can!) to help cover their costs.
We are located in Hickory, North Carolina where Hwy 70 and Fairgrove Church Road meet. Our hours are Monday - Friday 12:00-5:30 and Saturday 12:00-4:00. We are closed on Sundays.
Adopting a Friend
Adopting a pet from HSCC is easy! You can come to the shelter to get an application, or we can fax one!
Once your application is approved, an $100 donation will be collected and you have a new
friend! All dogs and cats will be spayed or neutered prior to going their
forever home, as well as being up to date on vaccinations & dewormed. Adoption also includes a starter bag of Science Diet, a complimentary office visit with one of our local vets, and more. For more
information click here! We adopt to families from out of our area, but transportation is your responsibility.
Volunteering and Donations
The Humane Society of Catawba County is always looking for reliable volunteers to
help with our sweet fur-babies. Our dogs need walking twice a day, our kitties need
socializing and we can always use help with general cleaning and maintenance. All volunteers are welcome; we request that you contact our Volunteer Manager for more info! We are sorry, but due to insurance requirements, all volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and may only be at the shelter during the hours we are open to the public.
