Our Pet List

Pet of the Month

Our pet of the month is...Mimi !

Pic coming soon!
Poor Mimi was abandoned with 4 other dogs, all the subjects of abuse and neglect at the hands of their ex-cop owner. A compassionate lady who knew of the situation, was able to "bully" the bully into turning all the dogs over to her in order to save their lives. But their lives still hang in the balance, since this lady does not have the money necessary to treat them all for heartworms, and no place to keep them until they are treated and adopted or sent to other rescues. All but Mimi are spayed, up to date with shots, and being boarded at a vet until September 21st, but that's when the money runs out. Mimi is now in fostercare and being treated for heartworms, and will be spayed after her treatment is done. The rest must be returned to the abandoned house where they were living (Mimi is pictured at her old "home), and are in danger of being picked up by Animal Control where they will be destroyed by gassing in the shelter.
Help is DESPERATELY requested from other rescues and individuals who would like to donate toward their care, which, when all is said and done, will total over $1000! Donations can be made directly to the attending vets, and their contact information is available upon request.
As for Mimi, she's a really lovely little girl. At just about 20 lbs, she fits nicely in your lap and doesn't take up much space on the couch or eat very much. Despite the abuse she's suffered, she still believes in the goodness of humans, and that docked little nubbie tail starts waggling like crazy whenever someone comes near. She literally "grins" when she's told she's a good girl. This little one, guessed to be between 5-7 years old, still has SO much life to live and so much love to give to the special person who will one day adopt her. She is the type of dog who will bond extremely strongly to whomever shows her love and care, and will wish to be by their side at all times, like a little, loving shadow. She'd be PERFECT for a retired couple or someone home most of the time who'd like a companion and lap warmer to keep them company for years to come.
Mimi is working on house training, accepts her crate without complaint and keeps it clean at all times, is EXTREMELY responsive to training, and though a bit shy, loving to a fault.
If you're looking for a wonderful pet, please consider Mimi. She'll repay you with undying devotion for many years to come.

Good News!!!

Furbabies is slowly returning to operations after an almost 2 year hiatus. I am thrilled to report that our miracle child, Richard LeRoy Decker lll, was born on September 14, 2001! Ricky makes the third generation of rescuers and is already mom's big helper with the animals!

Who We Are

FR&A is a small rescue working primarily with special needs and mixed breed dogs and cats, though purebreeds are often available. All our pets are neutered/spayed prior to adoption, fully vaccinated, heartworm tested and on prevention, (FEleuk & Feline Aids tested if cats), and working on housebreaking and obedience if in a fosterhome.

Adopting a friend

To insure the best homes for these orphans who've already had a rough time, FR&A does require references, homechecks, and adoption contract stipulating indoor housing, proper veterinary care (including year-round heartworm prevention) and return of the animal to FR&A should you ever become unable to keep the pet for any reason. Adoption fees (varying depending on the needs, age and breed of dog) help us continue to rescue and help animals in need. Special needs pets and seniors may be available on a reduced adoption fee. Viewing by appointment only: (10am-8pm daily) Located in East Bend, NC (just northwest of Winston-Salem) off 421 North.
