Without the help of you, the people who adopt, foster, sponsor and provide needed funds, this work could not go on. In light of this, we would like to recognize some of our patrons to whom we are eternally grateful:
Unless we work through another established and recognized rescue group, we will not adopt our furkids any further away from Durham, NC than a 200 mile radius. The reason is the time and resource availability. Prior to adoption we complete a home visit. We also reserve the right to do follow up visits for the adopted furkid.
We are a small, independent Doberman Rescue. Our guidelines have been established, based on past experiences, plus excellent suggestions from seasoned Rescuers.
As in the beginning of any venture, one must set boundaries, and ours are very firm on this point. If we do not have the funds for the necessary medical attention, nutrition, and/or needs of "just one more Doberman," we will not attempt to strain our resources, by committing to his or her care. We are not nearly as large as some rescues, nor as well funded we rely on adoption fees and donations.
Each adoption goes much the same route. An adoption form must be completed, along with a Care, Custody and Control [Placement] Contract. Contact us via e-mail, and we will overnight the documents to you, or you may print them from our website.
Once the adoption paperwork has been completed, signed and received at Prayers 'n Paws Doberman Rescue, the background verification begins. We will talk with your veterinarian(s), trainer(s) [if any], at the same time arranging to drop by for the Home Visit.
Our adoption fee varies, depending on the age of the Dobe. Pups have an adoption fee of up to $500.00. We have had to raise our fees due to every commodity and service we use having gone up in price substiantially! All of our foster furkids have had a full vetting, are up to date on all their shots, are heartworm negative (some are HW neg only after being treated for the disease), have been accessed with other dogs and people, have been crate trained, and are either housebroken or have begun that training. We also try to include training on the lead, plus basic commands such as "sit, come, down, stay," and "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING THAT!!"
No one rescue has every Dobe for every person or family. We may not have a Dobe that will suit you, but please check with other rescues. Contact animal shelters within reason of your driving distance. There are too many Dobes needing homes that we are unable to fit in, as space is limited. Keep Looking. Don't give up. That perfect Dobe is out there for you somewhere!
