WORTH MENTIONING
Terrific Tuesdays!
To help with our ever expanding list of adult cats needing homes we are offering a special promotion - the adoption fee for an adult cat is only $50 on Tuesday evenings at the cat shelter (the adoption fee includes spay/neuter, basic shots and feline leukemia test - all this would normally cost almost $300 at the vet clinic!). Come in to meet your new friend!
Want to volunteer at the new shelter?
Now that our animal shelter is almost here we are looking for adult volunteers interested in volunteering begining this fall. Cleaning cages, feeding, watering and playing with the cats & walking the dogs is the "job" description and the "pay" is in animal kisses. We will be holding orientation and training sessions beginning in September. If you are interested please call or email with your contact info. Thank you!

Great news! Construction is almost complete at our shelter! The above photo was taken August 21st. We are so excited and grateful for the support we receive from the community, and we need your help now more than ever. We continue to be a very small, all volunteer group and run solely on fundraising and donations. Without a shelter we've managed to take in (and find homes for!) more than 1000 cats and 500 dogs. Imagine what we can do with a real shelter! Thank you so very much to all who continue to support us. We couldn't do it without you! Huge thanks also to our 100% volunteer contractor - Robert Roy, and to Lynn Roy, Pierce's Plumbing, Keith's Building Supplies, Gentex Building Supplies, Quickset Foundation, Dayle Chambers, Shamrock Truss, Gordie Cook, Stirling McNamara, Ronnie James, Dale Orr, Peter Vandergulik, Jamer Materials, Murphy's Surveying, L&B Industries, King of Windows, B&N Flooring, Orchard's Paint & Paper and all those who prefer to remain anonymous for their services and donations so far.

THINKGREEN program!
We are pleased to announce a partnership with Eastern Charlotte Waterways to help us implement the THINKGREEN fundraising program in Charlotte County. The THINKGREEN program involves collecting used inkjet and laser print cartridges and cell phones, which are sent in to be recycled which we are then paid for. Money from this project will go to our New Shelter Fund. So if you have any old inkjet or laser printer cartridges or cell phones around, just drop them off! Not only will you be helping us raise money, you'll be helping the environment as well! Cartridges and cell phones can be dropped off at:
the CCSPCA Cat Shelter and Mayfield Vet Clinic in St. Stephen, Cummings Convenience Store and the Ross Memorial Library in St. Andrews, Image Express and the St. George Pharmacy in St. George and Eastern Charlotte Waterways in Black's Harbour.
Need petsitting in St. Andrews?
Caira and Freya Clark, 2 of our young supporters, have started Purrfect Pet Care, a petsitting business in St. Andrews. They are generously donating 50% of their profits to the CCSPCA! Please call them at 529-1091 for more info!
Memorial Cards
If you would like to make a donation in memory of a friend or loved one, memorial cards can be picked up in St. Stephen at Stuart's Gifts, Stationary Plus, Humphreys' Funeral Home and Mehan's Funeral Home. In St. Andrew's memorial cards are available at Cummings Convenience Store. In St. George you can find them at the St. George Funeral Home. Thank you for thinking of us.
Donate a dog bed for the new shelter!
We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our new facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.
Thinking about declawing your cat?
This invasive and painful surgery is not something the CCSPCA recommends. Read a vet's opinion on it here!

LOST DOG OR CAT?
Charlotte County does have an animal control officer - Mike Shannon. He is responsible for picking up dogs running at large in Charlotte County and stray or unidentified cats within the town of St. Stephen. If you have lost a dog or cat, your first call should be to him. His number is 466-5031. You should contact vet clinics in our area (St. Stephen and St. Andrews) - sometimes an animal can be injured and picked up by someone passing by and brought to a vet clinic further away than you would think your animal could travel. We also have a Lost and Found list, so you should contact us as well. Also check Petfinder.com's 'lost and found' section in their classifieds.

HOW TO ADOPT
Adopting a pet is a long term commitment. Dogs live 8-12 years while cats can live an average of 15-20 years. During the time you own a pet, you may change jobs, move, get married or divorced, or have children. Don't let one of these events cause you to abandon or give away a pet. Pets become extremely attached to their owners and deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. Avoid hurting and causing undue stress to a helpless animal. Before you adopt, please seriously consider the long-term commitment involved.
Please contact us by email if you are a long distance phone call away.
During the adoption process, we will ask you questions about you, your family and your home and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Our adoption policy requires potential adopters to meet the animals in person, which means that all potential adopters must come to St. Stephen, NB. We do not ship animals anywhere. No animals will be held without an approved application form and adoption fee paid. Adoption fees can be paid by cash, cheque or online (use the 'Donation' button below).
Dogs -
The first step in the dog adoption process is sending us the application form. The form is available for download here. Please print, fill out, and fax to the attention of Gail at 506-466-9950. We prefer to have the application form in hand prior to potential adopters meeting the dogs as this allows us to review the application and check necessary references. This way potential adopters can know if their application is approved before making the trip to meet the dogs.
Cats -
All cats and kittens are spayed/neutered before they leave the shelter. The form is available for download here. You may print, fill out, and fax to the attention of Evie at 506-755-1327, or print in advance and bring to the shelter, or fill out at the shelter in person.
ADOPTION FEES Cats have an adoption fee of $80 ($85 if paying with PayPal). This fee includes their spay/neuter, their rabies shot (if they are old enough), their first set of annual shots and a feline leukemia test for adult cats. Dogs and puppies are $100 ($110 if paying with PayPal), this also includes the animal's spay/neuter and first shots. Adopters may be responsible for their new animal's booster shots, if the animal has not been with us long enough to receive them. To pay by long distance through PayPal - please click on the 'Make a Donation' button directly below.

OUR NEW SHELTER
Currently, we have a very small, one-room cat shelter that can hold about 20 animals. We also rent kennel space in another location to hold our dogs. In the Spring of 2003 we officially started raising money to build a new, comprehensive shelter to house both cats and dogs. Our goal is $150,000. Check out our thermometer (above left) to see our fundraising progress! If you would like to help with this worthy goal, or have any fundraising ideas, we'd love to hear from you!
