Our Featured Pet...

Our featured pet is pretty much all of them!! Most of these dogs are from a commercial kennel backround ( although we do get our share of owner turn ins, abandoned just about anywhere and just plain weird situations.).and we will state such in each write up. Most of these dogs have never seen nor been in a house before , never been around children and most have not walked on grass or on a leash or had a big yard to play in. We strive to introduce them to the wonders of the play yard, grass and food just for them as most have had to fight for every morsel they could get. We do have our share of dogs who will never leave here and they are our teachers who show the "new arrivals" how nice it is to be petted, or what fun the big play yard is. We do have our "Senior Specials" who are available for a lower fee as they are the most deserving and needy of our group. We look for adoptive parents who have an unlimited supply of patience, love and committment for these dogs have never been treasured. Our dogs truly are in need of rescue...not only of their bodies but their minds and hearts as well. We hope that in some way they will touch your life as they have touched ours. All dogs are fully vetted before adoption. These services include, spay or neuter, hernia surgery ( or any other surgery ) if needed, dentals on all dogs over 6 mos, all vaccinations including Kennel cough , heartworm tests for dogs over 6 mos , a Brucellosis test and full worming. We also give them a grooming before pick up and give you a goodie bag consisting of a ziploc bag of food that they are eating, a fleecy blankie , toys and a complete health record. We do adopt out of state and we do require you sign a contract upon approval and we take dogs back at any time during their lifetime should you not be able to care for them for any reason. We are careful about where the dogs go and in 19 years we have had less than 20 returns.

News

WE HAVE MOVED....as you can tell we do not have many dogs up for adoption at this time, this is because we have recently moved and we do not have a fenced in area yet at the new house, so we tried to send most of our adoptable dogs to other rescue groups before our move so we could concentrate on getting a building put up and a fence put in. My Husband however broke his elbow and hence cannot put in a fence for 6-8 weeks ( can you believe it?) So please bear with us and we should have some dogs up for adoption soon !! Thanks so much! Add on- As most of you have heard our area was devastated by tornadoes and we were no exception..our old house where our dogs were being kept as it has a building and air conditioning was damaged, all our neighbors 100 yards from us were totally wiped out and thankfully my husband was able to fix our power pole that had been totally uprooted to restore power to us within days. Our roof is damaged and we have siding damage on the house and our back chainlink fence was crushed in 3 places but our front turn out pen survived and now we are using that for the dogs until we can get our buildings moved to our new location and the new fence put in. Thanks so much for understanding!

Who We Are

Forest Ridge Rescue House is ( technically) a purebred dog rescue that was established in 1987 (although we do have our share of multi-cultural backrounded dogs who find their way here..).I started this rescue when I was working as a Vet Assistant and then later as an Asst. Groomer , I also exhibited dogs for 15 yrs and finished championships on several dogs in AKC shows. The sheer number of dogs needing assistance in this area is in a word..overwhelming. Our rescue is in Neosho , Mo which is located in Southwest Missouri. This area has the largest concentration of commercial kennels in the United States and almost all of our rescue dogs come from this backround as we are contacted by many commercial kennel owners. We also take owner turn ins or a dog that has been confiscated by or surrendered to authorities. Iam a stay at home Mom now and our rescue usually has around 20-30 dogs but sometimes more or less depending on the time of year and how many are waiting to come in. We assist specific breed rescue groups and other all breed rescues whenever we can and this is where we do most of our work guiding certain breeds to their specific rescues and on to new lives. We are licensed by the Missouri Dept of Agriculture as a rescue. As our motto says we are changing "One Life At A Time" and we also live by this poem I found many years ago...I don't know who wrote it and it was listed unsigned in the book I found it in but it sums up what we do here .

A DAY WELL SPENT
If we sit down at set of sun
And count the things that we have done
and counting , find
One self-denying act, one word
that eased the heart of one who heard
One glance most kind
That fell like sunshine where it went
Then we may count the day well spent

Adopting a friend

All of our dogs are adopted as home and family companions and not as backyard pets. Dogs are adopted with the understanding that they will live in your home and only be out in the yard for potty breaks, playtime and other activites but at night and the majority of the time they will be a part of your household. We crate train to make it easier to transition them to your household and to help in the housebreaking process but the adoptive families will have to housetrain as most of our dogs have never been inside a home. Occasionally we do get a dog from a previous owner who is housetrained and that will be listed in their writeup. If you find a dog you like and would like an application just email us and I will send one to you either by email or snail mail. Usually processing takes less than a week.
