| All adoptions are first come first serve the day the animal is available. We do not have an application process, so all adoptions are done here at the shelter. At this time we do not hold animals for individuals. If two or more individuals express an interest in the same animal at the same time there will be a silent bid. You will be provided a pick up date and will pick up your new pet from the veterinary clinic where the veterinarian and staff will provide you information on post care instructions for you pet, provide a complimentary exam and consultation and answer any questions you may have about your pet to ensure your pet lives a long and healthy life. This means that you will be picking up the animal a few days after you adopt them, depending on our veterinarian's schedule. We do have animals that are already spayed or neutered when they arrive at our shelter. If you choose one of those animals, then the animal may be able to go home with you that day, after a visit with our vet team. We have a little fenced-in area where you can interact with the animal that you are considering. Please don't hesitate to ask a staff member if they can escort you and the animal to this area. Only those that are available for adoption can be taken out.

| Animal Health & Public Safety in Kansas City partners with area animal care and welfare organizations to better serve the community and the animal population. Through these partnerships, we promote responsible pet ownership, encourage spaying and neutering of pets, and provide safe shelter for lost, abandoned and unwanted animals.
Did you know that you can help prevent the death of unwanted animals by spaying or neutering your pet? Many people love puppies and kittens, but some pet owners lose interest when their animals grow up. As a result, each year thousands of unwanted cats and dogs are euthanized annually or suffer as strays. Click here for a myth-busting document about spaying/neutering. Help save a life, please spay or neuter your pet. |
