About Us
The pets at Adopt a pet, and also the Meeker County Humane Society are one and the same. All pets from meeker County come to my shelter in Buffalo. They are all spayed/neutered, current with their vaccinations and treated for anything that can be cured and we work on housetraining and some basic commands. Lots are housetrainedas we have running areas to be in instead of sitting in their kennels.. I also rescue from Bloomington Animal control, abandoned or unwanted around the area.
Located on a farm outside Buffalo, MN, Adopt-A-Pet is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes for cats and dogs, ferrets, guinea pigs, bunnies, and even the occasional chicken (no reptiles).
Dogs have large outdoor exercise yards and are turned out four times a day. Usually there are up to 30 dogs at the shelter. Most are well on their way to being housebroken. Adopt-A-Pet houses an average of 35 cats -- all with wonderful dispositions and of assorted colors. Select cats have a special room with a screened porch to watch birds and get some fresh air. The shelter is contained in a renovated barn and is kept super clean.
Janice Lee, the founder of Adopt-A-Pet, has been helping unwanted and abused pets since 1981. Janice lives on the premises, knows all the pets well, and would be very happy to help you and your family find a match.
We also have an outreach program. We offer low-cost spay and neuters using a sliding fee scale. Please call the Shelter for more information!

Adopting
a Friend |
Adopt-A-Pet shelters up to 35 dogs. All the pets are fed quality food, spayed or neutered, are current on vaccinations, and cats are leukemia negative. Kittens are not altered but do recieve a good discount when they are 4 months of age.. Adopt-A-Pet has the best interest of the animals at heart and offers reasonable adoption fees, a health guarantee, and a return policy if a pet doesn't work out. Typical adoption fees are $75 and up.for dogs and $25 and up.for cats. Rest assured that although our adoption fees may be low, we have quality pets. We keep our fees low so that families can afford to adopt the animal that is right for them. Our primary goal is to find great homes for great pets.
Check out our list of adoptable pets!
If you do not find what you are looking for check back or contact the shelter--sadly, new pets arrive daily.
"I can assure you the pets receive wonderful care here, and I have lots of experience finding suitable new homes. Thanks for checking us out!" -- Janice Lee
