What's News in the Litter Box!
We are MOVING to another state. It has been a fulfilling experience to meet so many wonderful families. We've been blessed to find so many caring homes for our animals. It is tough to leave but we are excited about what we will do next in foster-care.
Helpful Hints to avoid “inappropriate elimination”.
Urinating and defecating outside of the litter box is one of the most common reasons for a cat to be turned over to a shelter. In many cases it is the fault of the human in charge of the litter box duties. Consider how often you flush the toilet when you use the bathroom. Every time, right? Any other thought reminds us of Port-a-Potties. Ick!
Well, cats are extremely clean by nature and their sense of smell is infinitely more sensitive than our own. Think about how a wild cat would handle his bathroom duties.
He would not choose to be confined to a 1’ x 2’ 'bathroom or walk around in his own waste. He would simply choose another spot to take care of business.
Top reasons for a cat to stop using the litter box
Dirty litter box
Poor choice of litter type
Poor location
Blocked from the box by a dominant feline housemate
Box size is too small
Too few boxes
Medical problems –Diabetes, Cystitis and Bladder Stones can be avoided by feeding canned food, in addition to dry food. Canned food offers increased water content and a decreased carbohydrate content allowing a more balanced diet. Talk to your vet on what constitutes an appropriate balance for your pet.
Who Are We? The Eternal Question!
The Puddy Tat Shack is a full-time foster-care program designed specifically for aiding Humane Societies struggling with feline population overflow.
How our program benefits Humane Societies.
Animals are permanently placed outside of the shelter. None of our cats goes back to the shelter. Allowing the Humane Society workers to stay focused on new business, rather than dealing with old.
We take on the responsibility for finding good homes, thoroughly screening perspective adoptive families and getting the adoptive paperwork processed.
We arrange and manage pet adoption weekends on a regular basis.
The animals receive quality, around-the-clock care and attention.
Should an adoption not work out we gladly receive the animal back with open arms.
Positive, open and honest communication with shelters.

Results: No Surprises.
Education is key. We provide pamphlets and insights, covering need-to-know and how-to topics. Families are welcome to call us for direction.
Results: We help combat the ignorance, intolerance and indifference toward the daily responsibility of caring for household pets, resulting in fewer strays, unwanted births and a happier community.
Discounts at Pet Supplies Plus, in Bloomington, with each adoption.
Results: A Happier Pocketbook.
All of our foster babies come from Humane Societies experiencing overflow issues.
