I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH A VERY DESTITUTE SINGLE FEMALE WITH TWO TODDLERS, WHO HAS A BULLDOG WITH HEARTWORM! AS HEARTBREAKING AS THAT IS, SHE CANNOT AFFORD THE CARE THIS WILL REQUIRE, AND DOES NOT WANT TO PUT THE TWO YEAR OLD DOG DOWN...THE CHILDREN WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AS THEY ARE ONLY 2 AND 4. PLEASE HELP, ANY DONATION IS ACCEPTED, I WILL BE SETTING UP A PO BOX FOR HER SO ALL FUNDS GO DIRECTLY TO HER, AND AS WE ARE A NONPROFIT, IT IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE, PLEASE HELP KEEP THIS FAMILY INTACT, THIS IS WHAT "NO KILL" IS REALLY ALL ABOUT! i WILL POST THE PO BOX ON THIS SITE, RIGHT HERE AT THE TOP, AS SOON AS I SET IT UP THIS WEEK. MORE PETS ARE "EUTHANIZED" THAN KILLED BY DISEASE ALONE!! PLEASE HELP ME TO REVERSE THIS STATISTIC!! PEOPLE DON'T DIE THIS WAY!!!!! WE HAVE KITTENS!!! PLEASE INQUIRE!!!t Please note, right at the start, we do not take in...pit bull, doberman, rottweiller or mixes of thoxe breeds...sorry, due to the family situation we utilize to correct behavioral issues which may have been the underlying reason for surrender, we cannot take a dog that was initially bred generations prior for fighting! Please understand, I made this mistake once early in my rescue, and my Ike still bears the scars that I have to look at every day! We re call ourselves "all PET rescue"! As much as these dogs have maybe been trained to not do certain behaviors, it is now bred in their DNA which is expressed in their genomes AND phenomes, you never know when they will snap!

Farmington Animal Rescue Mission

Please forgive us if you have been trying to contact us regarding an animal you would ke to adopt, or an animal you need to surrender and allow us to find the perfect forever home for it, my back went out (this is a more physical job than I could have ever imagined!), and wound up in the hospital for a few weeks trying to recuperate, has been a slow go, and am trying to return all the calls and emails that came in during my convalescence. Thanks for your patience during this difficult period, and please try to contact us again. Please note that we are at capacity for taking in surrenders of adult indoor cats, but if we can find a foster while we look for a home, that will work. Also, will the sweet lady who called me on July 27th about a Standard English Bulldog please either call or email me, I did not recieve her digital picture, but put up on my site as much as I knew, he sounds sooooo ooooober sweet! You can also call my husband if you are frustrated getting a hold of me at 313-529-1397, he may not know as much about our operations as I do, but will alert me as to your situation...working with these animals is my number one priority...I am NOT a broker, I train my babies for their new forever homes, just ask anyone who adopted from me! I am hoping the two very kind ladies with generous donations will try to contact me again, my children lost the information while I was away, and the offers of food bought especially for a rescue and the very kind child who had a birthday party with all presents going to animal rescue.... well, it really made my day, and I know it made me recover faster to get home and take care of my passion, my rescues! Also, thanks to all the wonderful people who have adopted from us lately, we feel each animal we take in as a special friend to us, and it warms my heart to see these wonderful homes they have now wound up in! We are eternally grateful to all our new adoptees! Three cheers to you!!!!

Our Featured Pet...

Precious, an adorable now six month old purebred beagle, had an unusual start in life, as she is not only one of 9 brothers and sisters, but due to all the pressure in her poor mommy's tummy, had an arm "stuck" against her mom's front bone and it never grew past an elbow. Her exciting birth included exiting her mother and going iinto the snow, bag of waters intact, and "G.g." running into the house with mom in one arm and bag, baby and all in the other, so mom could open the bag and clean baby. What G.g. and mom found, was that baby had a black "paw" at the end of her front right arm, which her mom promply licked right off, and put her on to suckle. She proved her tenacity in her first few weeks, fighting against able bodied brothers and sisters for a nipple until her eyes opened. She is a delight to behold, always happy and wagging her tail, and she has made her own special "hiding spots". When she has had "enough", she climbs in for a nap, then wakes up, ready to play and chase our black lab around!

News

We have had a few recent adoptions, we are now accepting new surrenders for dogs, we are at capacity unfortunately for cats for now.... I am in particular looking on behalf of an adoptee who wanted our Angel, he would like a black or brown lab, mix is OK, preferably under a year old. We offer foster/vacation care services as well, and have an fenced in acre for romping. We just acquired a nice young lady who needs school credit to volunteer, so you can know your animals will be pampered! We do not utilize cages unless you specify that is your preference to maintain a similar home environment to yours.

Who We Are

We take our animals in for a period of a week, minimum, to begin shots/worming, etc, and usually housetraining, so they will be excellent people companions, whether people want indoor or outdoor animals. During that time, each has a clipboard where we record little things we notice about their personalities, i.e. do they like children, do loud noises scare them, do household noises scare them, how well do they get along with other cats/dogs, etc. What personality traits do we notice? Every animal, like every person, is different, and we really strive to match as closely as possible, we view every animal adoption as if it was a child leaving our foster home. I was fortunate enough to have worked in the eldercare placement field and developed many friendships with managers of senior complexes, who generally know seniors who are looking for companions. We ask the initial owners if they have named the animal, do they request the new owners keep the name; I don't think animals should go through their short lives with five names.... The final evaluation is delivery of the animal during a home visit whereby all the household members are required to be in attendance, so I, as a former nurse, can evaluate if allergies or temperament are going to be a problem for the owners or animal (yes, animals have allergies too). If the animal was not previously altered, and is not adopted within a couple weeks after posting, we will alter (spay/nueter) them ourselves. If they are promptly adopted, we require, as a part of the adoption process, a refundable fee if the new owners wish to take the animal to their own vet within 90 days and have them altered there, they just need to mail a copy of the receipt and the fee is promptly refunded.

Adopting a friend

Just email us your inquiry, or give us a call. We can fill you in on all the details that we know about each animal. We do ask that you keep the animal's original name if their previous owner has requested this, and also that you send an occasional update and pictures to the previous owners if that is what they request. Some people want that, and others are just heartbroken and don't, but it is a delightful option. My mother had her cat's littermates pictures on her refridgerator, and it was great to see all of them and how they grew up every Christmas! We are non-profit, and no-kill. We ask that if your adoption from us does not work out, that you return the animal TO US, no questions asked. All of my four children are grown and mostly gone, leaving this big house feeling empty for too long. That has also given me the experience of knowing that no matter how well intentioned an action is, that life throws many curve balls and gives us all some circumstances that are beyond anyone's control. That is also one of the reasons we keep the animals that are surrendered to us for at least a week, so they have a back-up home, and if they have to be returned, they know us well and are comfortable here. As a no-kill shelter, we feel that euthanizing an animal because of circumstances beyond anyone's control is not that humane to us. We keep all our animals here until they are adopted into the right home for them...which is why I will put "special needs" if indeed there are special needs next to their pictures, no surprises for their new owners! There is a nominal fee which varies depending on the animal adopted, but is not more than $150, older animals are less than $100, and this helps pay for vaccinations, vet visits, parasite control, and general room and board. We also gratefully accept any and all donations of food, bedding, litter, bowls, toys, and household cleaners, especially bleach. Old newspapers are great, too! Your donations and adoption fees are tax deductable as we are a 501-c (3).

Come Visit Us or Give Us a Call!

We are just off I-696 at the Orchard Lake Road exit, about a mile north of there, and east one block off Orchard Lake. We will pick up surrendered animals as well, whichever is best for you. Surrendering a loved one is hard enough! We do have a short list of questions we ask to make sure we have information for new owners, ie, are shots up to date, etc. We strive to make each and every adoption a win-win as much as possible for everyone! We also love to hear back from our families who have adopted from us, feel free to email us anytime!
