Who We Are
The Save Our Strays group formed to help our county's local animal control shelter find homes for hundreds of adoptable pets. Serving almost a half million people there is a constant supply of beautiful, healthy and happy pets that for whatever reason, go unclaimed after being picked up as strays off the streets. The Kalamazoo Animal Services' shelter has only 109 cages, yet 10 to 30+ pets of all walks of life come to this shelter daily in hopes that they will be reunited with their owners. Sadly, 65% are unclaimed and because of the shelter's limited space, pets must be euthanized to make room for more incoming strays. With the help of Petfinder and you, we are finding homes for more animals before they are euthanized.
Adopting a friend
The most important thing that you can do if you are looking for a dog or cat is to visit Animal Services in Kalamazoo as soon as you can. There is always a good selection of cats, kittens, dogs and puppies. ~~The love of your life may be waiting for you at Animal Services.~~ Time is of the essence for the pets on this site. The shelter is constantly in need of cage space so the quicker the pet can be adopted after it's time is up the better. All pets are given 7 days for their owners to come find them. If they go unclaimed, people on each pet's waiting list are then able to adopt. All adoptions are handled by Kalamazoo Animal Services.
The cost involved for DOGS is $67.00 (this covers DHLPP, bordetella, heartworm test, rabies, state license, Capstar, deworming for puppies and microchipping PLUS a spay/neuter deposit. All animals adopted from Kalamazoo Animal Services must be spayed/neutered to help end the overpopulation of unwanted pets.
The cost for CATS is $82 for males and $92 for females. This covers spaying or neutering, FeLV/FIV test, microchipping, rabies, distemper combo shot and Capstar. Cats already altered when they arrive at the shelter are less expensive.
