Who We Are
The Southgate Animal Shelter is operated by the City Of Southgate.
The shelter is modestly sized, and primarily run by the dedicated Animal Control Officer Brian Benson & Aaron Bertera. The Officers goals are to care for Southgate's homeless animal population in the most humane and compassionate manner possible. It is also their goal to find the best homes possible for those animals that are adoptable.
DONATIONS ARE ALWAYS ACCEPTED & NEEDED:
We are always in need of DRY cat, kitten & puppy food, regular NON-CLUMPING cat litter, small blankets, and towels. Our heartfelt thanks to the citizens who have taken the time & effort to donate to help our animals while they stay with us!

Adopting a friend
The animals that we get into the shelter stay 5 days prior to being put up for adoption. Most of the animals we recieve have no previous history prior to impound. Southgate Animal Control Officers do their best to observe each animal's temperment before it is put up for adoption. It is our desire to see that every adoptable pet finds a good home. However, our space is very limited, and sometimes it is necessary to humanely euthanise. Please hurry if you are interested in adopting one of our pets. And remember to spay and/or neuter your pets, because EVERY animal deserves a loving permanant home!!!

The Southgate Animal Shelter cannot guarentee the breed, age, personality or temperment of an animal. What is listed is how the animal acts at the shelter, and may change when entering a new home.

Adoption/Visiting Hours
Monday - Friday 10:00 to 11:00 am and again 3:00 to 4:00 pm.
If you are interested in one of the animals and can't make it during visiting hours, please call to make an evening visitation appointment between 10:00 and 11:00am Monday through Friday.
If you are interested in adopting it is best to contact the shelter by phone rather than email.
The shelter has an answering machine so please leave a message anytime.
