Our goal during the application process is to find a home that is best suited for the dog and the adopter. Should multiple applications arrive for one particular dog we process each application and then determine which applicant is the best home for the dog.

Who We Are


Peke A Tzu Rescue is a Non-Profit small breed rescue exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our primary location is in Trufant, Michigan but we do have foster homes in Indiana and Florida. The rescue is comprised of volunteers donating their time and love. We do not receive any money from city, county, state or federal governments. The volunteers are not paid except with pupster kisses and adoration. Many of the gift shop items are donated by volunteers so that the rescue receives 100% of the sales proceeds. Also a volunteer has designed and maintains our website so that we do not have website fees with the exception of server costs. We rescue dogs from local animal shelters, animal control facilities and private owners. All are fostered in our homes until they find their Forever Home. All vetting needs are addressed upon arrival with the appropriate follow up vet visits. We also provide a Pre Adoption Physical which is done within a 7 day period prior to adoption. This physical includes a wellness exam and fecal. A copy of the Pre Adoption Physical with our veterinarian's signature will be supplied to the adopter. We will keep an update of total vetting costs per foster at Foster Vetting Costs. We do adopt out of state, but request that the Adopter fly in or drive in to get the baby.

Adopting a friend

Our Adoption Donation starts at $275 per dog. Copies of all vetting expense will be supplied to the adopter. There may be exceptions to the adoption donation on occasion which will be stated in the Adoption Listing. Should you question our Adoption Donations on the puppies and younger dogs please know that our hearts belong to the special needs and senior furbabies. When a puppy or very young dog arrives we do not consider the baby as a rescue, but a blessing for they have arrived to help our special needs and seniors that are so in need. Our vetting costs for the special needs and senior babies often exceed $1000 per pupster. We explain this to each one of our youngsers as they arrive and they agree with us 100 percent and we would hope that as you visit our sweet young babies you will feel the same way.
Our adoption procedure includes an Application, followed by a Verification of References and a Home Visit. We do adopt nationally, but request that the Adopter fly in or drive in to get the baby. We do request pictures of the potential adopter's home if we cannot do the Home Visit personally, as another rescue organization will be doing the home visit for us.
NOTE: Our first reference call is made to the vet - following are our vetting requirements and applicant will not be considered if the following is not on record: UTD on all shots (Rabies and Distemper), yearly Heartworm Test and applicable medication that applies. Please, to save us time and telephone expense, do not apply for one of our rescue dogs if this criteria has not been met.
