Who We Are
The Thumb Animal Shelter is privately owned and operated by Ron and Deen Forster of Elkton. The Shelter has been contracted and subsidized by Huron County to recieve and house the lost pets, strays, and unwanted dogs in the county for the last 10 years. The shelter has the capacity to house up to 20 dogs. Although we are dedicated to reuniting lost dogs to their owners and finding homes for the unwanted ones, many have to be humanely euthanized. We work with many breed rescue groups. Our goal is to save as many dogs as we possibly can.
Adopting a friend
The Thumb Animal Shelter requires an adoption form (available at the Shelter or on our website) to be filled out and signed. A fee of $60 is charged for every adoption. We require that every dog adopted be neutered or spayed and written proof from a licensed Veterinarian to be returned to the Shelter within the time period stipulated on the adoption form.
