WE NEED YOU!!!
- Why walk alone? Our exercise buddies are guaranteed to keep you motivated. Only have a few minutes? Come in and just walk one dog. It will put you in a better mood and make that pooch's day!!
- Need a stress reliever? Our cats are more than willing to put their purr boxes to work making you feel relaxed and happy. Come play with them!!!
- If you haven't guessed we need volunteers. There is always a need for volunteers to help in the kennel area and in the front office answering phones and greet ing the public, as well as those who are willing to help out at fund raisers. We need board members with fresh ideas and motivation.
- We want to work around your schedule. Just give us a call and tell us what you are willing to do. Our pets would REALLY appreciate it!!
OUR MISSION...
- We advocate the humane treatment of animals by initiating community awareness of pet care, owner responsibility, animal population control, and prevention of animal cruelty.
- We seek the return of lost animals to their owner, locate suitable homes for adoptable animals, and foster animals with special needs.
- We will set an example for all, providing humane education and special humane programs to reach and guide the community.
- We will efficiently use our animal shelter as a safe haven to provide care, treatment, and protection of lost, abused, injured, surrendered, and/or abandoned animals.
ADOPTING A FRIEND...
- When you find a furry friend that you would like to adopt and make part of your family, the first step is to fill out our adoption application.
- Once the application is approved (approval time usually only takes a few minutes depending on circumstances), you can place a hold on the pet for 24 hours or adopt the pet that day.
- The adoption fee for your new family member is $95 for dogs. The price for kittens under the age of six months is $60.00. Cats over the age of six months are $45.00. If your potential pet has not been spayed or neutered, a $25 spay/neuter deposit is also collected, per Michigan state law, which is refunded to you when your pet has been fixed and you show us proof of it within the prescribed timeframe. If the pet is already spayed or neutered, the $25 deposit is not required. A coupon valued at $30.00 for cats and $50.00 for dogs is given to the new adopter to help offset the cost of spay/neutering the new pet.
- DOGS All of our dogs have been given at least their first distemper/parvo vaccine, bordetella vaccine, first worming and a micro-chip..
- It is Michigan Law that all dogs over 4 months of age be rabies vaccinated and be licensed. Therefore, if you reside in Charlevoix County you must purchase a dog license the day of the adoption.
- CATS have been wormed at least once, have been given at least their first distemper vaccine, and have been tested for feline leukemia.
- All adopters receive a free bag of NutroMax food and an adoption starter kit filled with samples and coupons from companies.
- Ask about our senior citizen policy on adopting a cat. :)
