We have many nice cats and dogs here...the animals come in all shapes and sizes....one to fit your household!! Can't one of you out there help our pets?? Our adoption animal pictures/status are updated ASAP......so if you see a pet on Petfinder.com, come on down to the shelter. If you see one of our pets on Channel 4 at 6:50am Fridays and you want to adopt it, be the first in line at 8am (we open 2 hours early on Fridays just for the adoptors rushing in after seeing us on TV)!! Normal adoption hours start at 10:30am (see schedule below) We adopt on a First Come-First Served Basis and cannot hold animals.......so you can call or email us for more information, but it is best to come in person. Remember, there is always a pet in need of your love here!

An "older" puppy or dog will already be the size he will be at adulthood and there will be no guessing if he is the "right size" for your home!! They love to show you how cute they are and they can only do that when you come to the shelter.......we want their pictures to make you want to see them in person

ADOPTING A FRIEND

Detroit Animal Control Center Adoption Procedures:
Only healthy adult and juvenile animals that are not known to have exhibited vicious tendencies or other serious behavioral disorders will be available for adoption.
All adopters must be of legal age and will be required to read and sign the animal adoption contract.
All animals adopted WILL BE spayed or neutered before the adopter takes possession.
All animals over four months of age will receive a rabies vaccination and license if applicable, and are sold at the adult price.
ALL ANIMALS ADOPTED MUST BE SEEN BY A PRIVATE VETERINARIAN WITHIN 72 HOURS AFTER ADOPTION.

Adoption Fees :

Dogs (Over 4 Months): $100
Puppies (Under 4 Months):$175
Cats(Over 4 Months): $60
Kittens (Under 4 Months): $75

Fees include: Vaccinations, deworming, Spaying/Neutering and a Dog licence (where applies).

NEWS
The Adoption Program at the Detroit Animal Control Center rescues dogs and cats that were either abandoned or given up by their owners or found as strays. We observe our adoption animals' behavior during their stay at the center to assure their suitability as a pet. Sad thing is, because of the number of animals running loose in the city, our adoption program is never without a pet needing a owner's love and care. Please, keep coming back to this page. We may just have the pet you've been searching for.

We are happy to say a lot of the Rescues have been calling and coming in!!! Not only do we thank you for continuing our goal to adopt more animals....but the animals thank you with a big kitty or doggie kiss.

The mission of the Animal Control Division is to promote, preserve, and protect the health, safety and quality of life of residents, visitors and those doing business in the city of Detroit in the most safe, humane, and efficient manner as possible with available resources. To prevent the spread of rabies and other diseases caused or carried by animals. To provide efficient, professional, services that prevent, assess, and control animal nuisances. And to educate and enforce Animal Control Ordinances in the City of Detroit.

The City of Detroit Animal Control & Care Center is located in southwest Detroit. We are one block south of West Fort Street and one block east of West Grand Blvd at the corner of 24th Street, which is a few blocks from the Ambassador Bridge to Canada.
