Pet of the Month!

Most of the animals posted on this site are being fostered or are referrals from their current owners. We are excited that the Lake County Animal Control facility is now on Petfinder! As they now list the animals that come into their facility, we can concentrate on helping find homes for animals that can no longer stay in the situation that they are in. Please check out our pet list and see if you see your next best friend!

Who We Are

The Lake County Pet Adoption League, Inc. (P.A.L.) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization made up of caring concerned citizens in and around the Lake County area. The main goals of P.A.L. are to find suitable homes for the homeless animals that end up at the local dog pound, to promote spaying and neutering of companion animals and financially assist residents wanting to spay or neuter their pet, and the promotion of humane education, especially in the area of proper pet care.

P.A.L. encourages adoptions from the local dog pound and advertises animals that are available for adoption. We like to work with breed rescue groups, and other humane groups whenever possible.

P.A.L. offers financial assistance to area residents for spaying and neutering their pets. Certificates valued at $15 to $35 are sent to any county resident, out of county residents receive certificates worth $10. P.A.L. also has a program called the Prevent-A-Litter Program wherein we will pay half or the entire price to spay the mother of any litter of puppies or kittens that are brought to the dog pound. This will hopefully reduce the numbers of future animals relinquished.

P.A.L. does a limited amount of foster care, mostly for short-term or special needs cases.

P.A.L. has a three week education program that we take into area schools. The program targets the 4th grade level, and is filled with guests (some human, some canine), and interactive activities.

Adopting a Friend

P.A.L. foster animals have an adoption fee of $50-$75 for a cat and $75-120 for a dog (depending on the amount of veterinary bills). All animals are current on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (if too young, P.A.L. will pay for the procedure when old enough), and tested for heartworm or feline leukemia.

Most of the animals listed on this site are still at the local dog pound. If the animal is still at the dog pound the adoption fees are: Dog or Cat - $10, Puppy or Kitten - $5. All adoptions require a spay/neuter deposit of $25 that is refunded when the animal is altered. If the animal has been altered by P.A.L., we appreciate a donation to help toward the surgery.

Volunteering and Donations

P.A.L. could always use help with fund-raisers and with transporting animals. If you are interested, please let us know! Donations are always needed, our wish list includes: crates, blankets, towels, dog toys, cat toys, kitty litter, cat food, puppy food, and of course, CASH! We are always looking for good loving foster homes for the animals. If you are interested please e-mail Sally at lcpal@netonecom.net. Donations can be sent to: P.A.L., P.O. Box 989, Baldwin, MI 49304 or if you would prefer you may make a cash donation to our account at our local veterinary clinic. Thank you!
