ATTENTION FEDERAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES
Cats R Us (CRU) is a participant in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) of the National Capitol Area and of Central Maryland.
The CFC open season provides Federal employees an opportunity to pledge monies in support of CRU's efforts to rescue hundreds of cats and kittens.
Within the CFC booklet, which identifies organizations from which individuals may select to make a donation, please look for CRU. More about the CFC campaign can be found at
http://www.opm.gov/cfc including the CFC's mission, regulations and guidelines, and frequently asked questions.
The CFC is one of many ways in which CRU seeks to raise funds and we appreciate your consideration of this option for the upcoming 2007 campaign and subsequent years.

Adoption Policies and Why We Do It This Way:
Please take a few moments to read the following explanation of our adoption policies and the steps that make up the adoption process. It is important that potential adoptees understand two things:
The process is the same for everyone; and
It is not our intent to frustrate you.
Rather, everything we do is for the best interests of the cats in our care, and is aimed at giving them the best possible chance at finding a permanent home. The procedure is as follows: potential adopters are asked to complete an adoption application. Once the application is submitted, a Cats R Us representative will go over the application with the potential adopter(s). If there are already other animals at home, veterinary references will be sought and a veterinary check will be needed. This process is simply to protect the health of the adoption candidate and the companion animals already owned. Providing all goes well, an appointment for a home visit will be arranged and the adoption will take place at this time. While we "actively" try to find barn homes for those kitties who would prefer the outdoors to an inside home, for those cats and kittens we find who would rather live "indoors" we REQUIRE those who adopt them to share in the great "indoor" adventure. We have found that those kitties who have become "tame before our eyes" and have at some point experienced the wild "outdoors" would prefer the comfort of your lap or something equally as comforting!!
Who We Are and what "Feral" means...
>^..^< We are a Non Profit 501(c)3 feral cat group that operates two small shelters in the Annapolis, Maryland area. Our main focus is TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return). Our shelter in Arnold, Maryland is our "TNR" shelter. TNR is a full management plan in which stray and feral cats already living outdoors, in cities, towns and rural areas are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, sterilized, and eartipped for identification by veterinarians. We DO NOT take feral cats as we have no facility to house them. We DO NOT take giveaways but can direct you to another organization that might take your cat. Another option we can provide is help in adopting your cat by your (and your cats) attendance at our adoption shows.
>^..^< Our "tame" shelters are in Annapolis. We welcome visitors so please call the CRU line (410-263-1719) if you wish to visit. These shelters house those cats and kittens we have found "abandoned" at our feral sites or are strays. We are a NO KILL facility and these cats will stay with us as long as it takes for them to find their forever home. Most of our kittens are in foster homes now, thanks to our wonderful foster volunteers. We are always in need of foster homes so if you feel you have the "right stuff" to foster please get in touch with us to discuss details. We have an "open" shelter, this means they are not in cages, they are free to roam about and interact with each other, they have cat trees, windows to look out of and all the creature comforts of a home....(except yours). Come see them, by appointment, in their natural environment. Visit us and see how really wonderful they are. Please call our CRU phone line 410-263-1719 and we will be glad to have you visit. We also welcome any new volunteers who would like to come, sit and spend down time with our wonderful cats. It is an enjoyable relaxing time and the kitties always welcome a cuddle and warm lap.
>^..^< We also offer low-cost spay and neutering to the general public. This doesn't mean we will pay for it, but we will help you to get your pet fixed at a reduced cost!! !!
Please Recycle - Adopt a Second Hand Cat!!
All of our rescues are spayed or neutered BEFORE being placed in a permanent home, even kittens. This way we can guarantee that we will NOT contribute to the population explosion that is currently a huge problem in the US. All of our cats and kittens have been evaluated by a veterinarian and given the proper vaccines, wormed and flea treated.
Our adoption fee is $110 for one $180 for two. If you are gone from home for an extended period during the day, and desire to adopt a kitten, please consider adopting two and share in the wonderful enjoyment two kitties bring to your life. It is not any more of an expense and you will be delighted (and comforted) in knowing that they have each other while you are away!
Donations
If you have any old cars or boats that you are getting rid of, please consider a charitable donation to CRU. Just call (410) 703-1419 if you would like to help. Thank you for your donation. All donations are tax deductible, we are a 501(c)3. We can always use cat carriers, metal wire type crates, cat trees/furniture, towels, cleaning supplies. Email us at
MsKittyMeow3@juno.com and we'll arrange to receive the donation.
Cat Info Section
Feline Immune-deficiency Virus (FIV) FACTS
FIV is a slow virus that affects a cats immune system over a period of years.
FIV is a cat-only illness and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines (like dogs).
FIV cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all.
FIV is not easily passed between cats. It CANNOT be spread casually like in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens.
The virus can be spread through blood transfusions, badly infected gums, or serious, penetrating bite wounds. (Bite wounds of this kind are extremely rare, except in free-roaming, unneutered tomcats.)
A neutered cat, in a home, is extremely unlikely to infect other cats, if properly introduced.
Many vets are not educated about FIV since the virus was only discovered 15 years ago. Do not let a veterinarian convince you that a cat should be put down because of FIV, this simply is not true.
