Who We Are

Cause for Paws is a 501(c)3 non-profit, no-kill shelter for cats and kittens. In addition to matching 300-500 cats and kittens with prospective families each year, Cause for Paws is also responsible for spreading the word about the care and responsibility that must be given to our feline friends. Spaying and neutering are so important in our cause to help eliminate the thousands of unwanted cats and kittens in our area towns. Our spay-neuter tracking program for our kitties is 99% effective. Other issues, such as inhumane declawing, animal cruelty, lack of care, and roadside abandonment of unwanted pets are other areas we continue to address. We are just one small organization, can you imagine the numbers of cats out there that are not being helped.

The organization was founded 13 years ago by Mary Lou Kobak and Priscilla Thompson, the first of its kind to aid abandoned animals in the area. Priscilla Thompson was killed in a tragic accident several years ago. Mary Lou continues to be the driving force behind the organization, carrying out their dream. She has seemingly endless energy and love for the cats and kittens in our area who need her aid. The organization is made up of a wonderful group of extremely dedicated volunteers.

Adopting a Friend

Cause for Paws is looking for good families interested in adopting one of our kitties. Our requirements for adoption: Dr. Jay Gould at Mattapoisett Animal Hospital and his staff are our "angels".

Your New Kitten

Bringing a new kitten into your home is very exciting. We have included instructions on how to care for your new kitten to make the transition as smooth as possible. Click here to read about how to care for your new kitten!

Volunteering and Donations

We are always in need of good foster homes in our area that have an extra room for a kitty. We supply food, equipment, litter, and all medical care. All you need to provide is a home with a separate room and your love for kitties.

Any donations of litter, good dry food (especially kitten food), cat toys, bedding, scratch pads, kitty condos, kitty furniture, litter pans, food dishes, and scoops are always GREAT. Monetary donations are always needed for medical care. Any help to support our cause is always greatly appreciated. Your tax deductible donations can be mailed to: Cause for Paws, 11 Ridgewood Road, Mattapoisett, MA 02739.
