ADOPTION PROCESS
The following information details our adoption policies and procedures:
The process is implemented consistently. Adopting an animal may be more involved than you expect. The best interests of the animals in our care is our primary concern. Our goal for these animals is to secure a permanent home.
If you are here with your children, PLEASE DO NOT LEAD THEM TO BELIEVE YOU WILL BE ADOPTING OR GOING HOME WITH AN ANIMAL. The process, depending on staff/volunteer availability may take several days. We reserve the right to deny an application without cause.
KAC personnel will accompany individuals interested in adopting a pet during the initial visit. KAC personnel will provide the history and needs of the animal including the feeding and exercise requirements necessary. Adoption fees vary by age and type of pet. The Adoption rate schedule is posted in the KAC office and will be discussed at this time. Fees are paid by bank check payable to The Town of Kingston.
Information required may include but is not limited to: identification verification; veterinary references for present and/or prior pets in your care; proof of home ownership or written landlord consent permitting animals in/on the property as well as a proven ability to contain the animal to your property.
Upon submission of a completed adoption application, all required information will be verified.
KAC will provide hard medical copies of your new pets history. The keeping of these records upon adoption are your responsibility.
Additional issues to consider prior to adopting a pet include :
-Financial ability to provide for the care of the animal including food, supplies, license and veterinary care.
-Adequate time to care for your new pet including training, exercise, grooming and personal interaction.
~~ Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
