The Medfield Animal Shelter is an all-volunteer organization and does not have a staff. All visits to the shelter must be scheduled in advance by calling (508) 359-8989 because there is not always someone at the shelter.

Low-cost Spay/Neuter Clinic for Cats As part of our ongoing effort to help reduce the population of homeless and unwanted cats in our area, the Medfield Animal Shelter hosts STOP (Stop the Overpopulation of Pets), a low cost spay / neuter clinic for cats once a month. The fee for female cat spays is $80, and the fee for male cat neuters is $70, and includes a Rabies vaccine if needed. Distemper vaccines, wormer and flea removal products are also available for an additional fee. Payment must be made in full when you bring your cat to the clinic in order for the vet to do the surgery. All appointments must be booked in advance and cats must be in carriers. Please call the Medfield Animal Shelter at (508) 359-8989 if you wish to book a spay or neuter appointment for your cat(s), or send an e-mail to medfieldcatlover@aol.com with your name and address and the age and sex of the cat you want to book for the clinic. Our next clinic is scheduled for May 28th. For additional clinic dates taking place at other locations, visit the STOP Clinic's website.

May's Happy Tail!
Alice the Husky (now named Kenya) was originally found as a stray. After no one claimed her we placed her in a new home right away, but the other dog in the home was mean to her so she came back to us. Luckily, the second home we found for her was patient with her while she settled in, and she is now loved by everyone including her canine brother Jackson
The Medfield Animal Shelter's mission is to rescue lost or abandoned animals and provide for their comfort and safety until they are reunited with their owners or placed in new homes. We are a no-kill shelter, which means no pet will ever be euthanized because it has run out of time to find a home. We are committed to ending the overpopulation of pets that results in an estimated 5 million companion pets being euthanized at shelters in the U.S. every year, therefore all cats and dogs adopted from us are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. We also sponsor a low cost spay/neuter clinic for cats at our shelter once or twice a month. Because our facility is staffed only by a group of dedicated volunteers, we don't have regular adoption hours. All visits to the shelter must be scheduled in advance by calling (508) 359-8989.
The Medfield Animal Shelter is a non-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) organization. We depend on donations to fund our operating costs, and are grateful for donations of any size. If you wish to help by making a tax-deductible contribution, please send your donation to:

We depend on donations of food, cleaning supplies and cat litter to care for the shelter residents. We also appreciate donations of toys and treats, since they help ease loneliness and boredom for the cats and dogs. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter.
This is a list of items currently on our wish list:
Pets need veterinary care throughout their lives. Before deciding to adopt a pet, please be sure to you've budgeted not only for food, but also for annual vaccines and check ups, as well heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Please do not adopt a pet if you will not be able to provide it with ongoing care.
The animal shelter is an all volunteer organization, and we are always in need of adult volunteers who can commit to helping on a regular basis (we require all volunteers to make a minimum commitment of helping two times a month at a scheduled time). If you love animals, are at least 16 years old, and have time to help with dog walking, feeding, cleaning, and socializing shy pets, please call (508)359-8989.
Please note: We expect all volunteers to help with some of the cleaning tasks, since keeping the entire facility clean is vital to providing a healthy environment for the pets and their caretakers, and is also very time consuming.
Kids between the ages of 12 and 16 are welcome to help as long as they are always accompanied by a parent who has been trained as a shelter volunteer. The parent must be an active volunteer and their child must be with them at all times at the shelter in order to help.
We have several types of volunteers that we need on an ongoing basis:
Daily Feeding and Cage Cleaning
If you are interested in helping out with the feeding and cage cleaning that is done several times each day, please call the shelter at (508) 359-8989. We need help both on weekdays and weekends and do ask that you sign up in advance so that we know the pets are always fed.
Cat and Dog Care
We have an ongoing need for volunteers who can spend quality time with the shelter kitties and dogs (we always have cats, but don't always have dogs) to make their stay at the shelter happier and more comfortable. If you can spend a few hours per week petting and brushing the pets and helping with their care (cleaning litter boxes and cages, sweeping and mopping the floors of the rooms they are in, giving medicine, etc.) we always need more help.
Dog Walking
We walk the dogs 4 or 5 times daily and need volunteers willing to commit to a dog walking schedule. If you like to walk or run and want a nice companion, we usually have one or two dogs that would love to take you out for some fresh air.
Maintenance and General Organizing
Here are just a few of the things that need to be done on an ongoing basis. If you can help with any of these tasks, we really need you!
