PoundHounds
is an all-breed, all-volunteer rescue organization. Our mission is to facilitate
the placement of abandoned or surrendered dogs currently in shelters or town-run
pounds.
We work closely with Animal Control Officers (ACOs) and other rescue groups and shelters to help care for and place abandoned, abused or surrendered dogs in shelters and town pounds and provide medical care and spaying/neutering to counteract pet overpopulation.
The PoundHounds ACO Collaboration (PAC) is an innovative program created by PoundHounds to provide support for local ACOs to help provide care and placement for dogs in town pounds.
Thanks to your support, over the last four years we have covered medical costs for over 500 dogs — including spay/neuter for over 400 dogs, vaccinations for over 300 dogs, and additional medical care for over 120 dogs..
There is a crucial need for more medical care for pound dogs. To often we are contacting by ACOs with dogs in their town pound that have infections, eye problems, heartworm, lyme disease, even broken bones...and there's no money to treat them.

For many towns, animal control is way down the list of priorities. The PoundHounds ACO Collaboration (PAC) is the only program dedicated to helping ACOs improve the standard of medical care and visibility for dogs in municipal pounds and shelters in order to increase their chances for adoption. PoundHounds is often the only animal welfare group that Animal Control Officers (ACOs) can turn to for financial help for abused and abandoned dogs in town pounds. We also provide Kuranda beds and leashes and collars generously donated by you through our Leashes by the Pound program.
When an ACO has a dog in need of medical care, PoundHounds is there to help. No dog has to leave a town pound unsterilized to continue the tragic cycle of unwanted, abused and abandoned strays. We cover training costs for dogs that face long confinement or euthanasia because of lack of training. Thanks to your support, we have never turned away a qualified ACO or dog. We serve ACOs across Massachusetts, including Barnstable, Berkshire, Bristol, Dukes, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk and Worcester Counties.
