BRAVEHEART UPDATE: 2/3/08 ***********************************************************************

YAY!!!!! Gerry passed his CGC/TDI tests! Gerry was originally cared for at the Taunton Animal Shelter and then brought into the BraveHeart Program where he was fostered and now adopted by his foster parents Carrie and Henry. Gerry is proof that pit bulls can be outstanding therapy dogs. Gerry attened some adoption/education events to promote the "breed".

The deathrow pups (Lil Miss Sunshine and her Rays) have all been placed in fantastic homes. Aslo the adorable tag-along deaf puppy Oliver as well. Thanks to all the foster parents and new families! A thank you to BraveHeart Rescue has appear in the North Texas Humane Society Newsletter.

Here is momma Lil Miss Sunshine's story as she is now ready for adoption!

Merry, I wanted to say THANK YOU for taking Sunshine and her surviving babies. I love that girl! The first time that I saw her, she was walking down the middle of the road, head hanging down trying not to get hit by the 18 wheelers that were zooming by. I have terrible luck picking up stray dogs on that same road- they ALWAYS run from me and I see them days later on the side of the road dead. It has happened many times. With LMS, I decided that I was NOT going to let this one die right in front of me. I pulled over and called her, but true to my luck, she took off in the opposite direction and headed into a creek bed. My response was "Oh no you don't. I'm not letting another one die" and I went in after her. She looked at me like I was crazy, but it was so hot (Texas in July is awful) and she was so big that she didn't have the energy to fight. I picked her up and lugged her back to my car. I volunteer at HSNT's SW Adoption Center, so I headed there with her. On the way to the shelter, I was thinking that she could have ripped my face off if she wanted to, but she just sat in the back enjoying the air conditioning. She was on her 3 day stray hold when she delivered. I had a pregnant foster boxer at the same time, so I couldn't foster her. They had their babies the same day. LMS had 11 and Sierra (my foster) had 10. Tammy Hawley and Sherri are my heros. Anybody else would have voted for euthanasia (and some did), but they were willing to give them a chance. It was sad to lose the babies that we did, but for the 4 that survived and for Sunshine, they hit the jackpot when you agreed to take them. I am forever grateful that you and your foster families were willing to open your hearts and homes to those sweet babies. Thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart. Please give Sunshine a big kiss right on the mouth for me and tell her that Aunt Kathy loves her :) I would love to see pictures of her if you happen to have any. -- Kathy Struve Godley, Texas Legacy Boxer Rescue Volunteer/Foster "Warm Your Heart with a Boxer" www.savetheboxers.com .
