I would like to dedicate this rescue to the memory of my father, Rawford Stewart, who passed away on September 11, 1998. He was the best dad anyone could ask for and he is missed greatly by all who knew him. I would also like to dedicate this rescue to Jake, my sheltie, that the rescue is named after. He passed away on March 12, 2008 from Cushings Disease.JULY 2008 - JAKE'S HAVEN IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED!!!EXTREME NEED FOR FOSTER HOMES in the Colrain area !!!We are growing by leaps and bounds and really need foster homes badly. The more foster homes we have, the more dogs we can save. Having to say "NO" to saving an animal is heartbreaking when we don't have space.Fostering is so rewarding and a wonderful way to fill your life with a little one starving for attention and willing to give unconditional love in return. Watching an animal thrive on your love and attention and then going to his or her forever home is a great feeling. Tears of happiness are shed as you watch this little one blossom under your care as well as tears of sadness when you say "good-bye" when he or she leaves for his or her forever home. NONE We have no dogs at this time for adoption. UPCOMING EVENTSWe will be at PETROCK again this year. This is a huge event with many different rescues and shelters set up with animals for adoption and selling things to raise money for their rescue or shelter. There is also bands and other activities going on. It will be held at Quinsigamond Community College on the track in Worcester MA. There is not a date set yet for 2008.NewsAs always we need donations. If you can help us help them that would be great. You could send a monthly donation or a one time donation to help the animals. All donations are tax-deductable and we can mail you a receipt if you let us know you need one. We also could use someone who knows how and has the time to write grants. We could use volunteers for fundraising. At this point Jake's Haven only has 2 volunteers myself and my partner. In order for us to keep helping the animals in need we need to grow as a rescue. The need for us to take in more animals has grown but our budget and volunteers have not. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! Even if you are not in our area you could hold a car wash, bake sale etc and mail the donation to us. This would be tax deductible. Again, WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CONTINUE TO HELP THE ANIMALS!!!Note:None at this time. SPONSORSWe are starting a new program to help raise money to take care of the animals who are un-adoptable. If you see an animal on our website that catches your heart and says sponsor me next to them, you can sponsor that animal for $10.00 a month and receive a picture and history of your animal. This donation will help to feed and take care of this animal for the duration of his/her stay at Jake's Haven. We will also accept a larger or smaller amount, as all donations help, and are also tax deductible. All donations are tax deductible. Who We AreJake's Haven was incorporated in 2003 as a nonprofit, 501(c)3, no kill, animal rescue group. Our mission is to find good homes for abused, abandoned, homeless and unwanted domestic animals. We are raising money to provide emergency medical care for animals in need, along with routine medical care for animals in our foster care program. Every penny we raise goes to the animals - no one gets a salary! We run by donations only. An adoption donation will be asked for each animal on an individual basis depending on age, health and other matters taken into consideration.
