LOST PETS - If you have lost your pet, report them missing right away, DON'T WAIT. Contact your local Animal Control Officer and all Animal Control Officers in the Cities and Towns that connect to yours. Many Cities and Towns are forced to euthanize due to lack of space, each animal has to be held for 10 days or until the owner claims it, before it can be adopted. YOUR PET IS COUNTING ON YOU, don't give up the search. Please help us return your pet quickly, make sure pet is wearing a current license & Rabies tag, so he/she can find their way home.

PROTECT - Gardner Animal Control Officers protect the rights of animal owners and non-owners, and interests of animals alike. The Animal Control Officers are responsible for providing and maintaining a safe environment, this means: for citizens, protection against animal disease or harm, uncontrolled pets, and wildlife; and for animals conditions free of abuse.
EDUCATE - Animal Control Officers educate citizens about animal safety and owners about responsible pet care, as well as the need for rabies vaccinations and licensing of pets.
ENFORCE - Animal Control Officers enforce the City of Gardner ordinances and Massachusetts General laws concerning animals.
LOOSE DOGS - If you are calling to report a loose dog and it is during our office hours, please call the Police Department at (978) 632-5600, so they can dispatch us. If you leave a message and we are out on the road, we might not get the message for a couple hours and the dog will be long gone.
COMPLAINTS/EMERGENCIES - If someone is in danger or an animal is immediate danger, please contact the Police Station directly at (978) 632-5600. If it is during normal office hours, they will dispatch Animal Control (Mon,Tues,Wednesday,Thursday & Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.). After hours someone will be paged for emergencies only.
If you have an on-going problem and it seems to happen during off hours, call and speak to an Animal Control Officer, they can add the complaint to a log of complaints, which will then be considered, and EMERGENCY.
LICENSE - MASS GENERAL LAW requires ALL DOGS be vaccinated and licensed within the City or Town the reside. Protect your pet and avoid costly fines, license your pet yearly with the City Clerk. Please ask for a copy of the City Ordinances on dogs, if you do not get one at the time you license. It is the responsibility of the pet owner to follow the rules. Please be a responsible pet owner.

You may also license by mail, send proof of Rabies and proper payment and copy of spay/neuter certificate, if spayed to receive reduced fee. The license will be mailed to you.

PLEASE BE KIND TO YOUR NEIGHBORS - If you notice your pet is barking excessively, please ask the Animal Control Officer for help, before your neighbors start to complain. Stop the problem before it becomes a habit. The Animal Control Officer is very willing to work with you on any problem you may have.
SPAY & NEUTER YOUR CATS - Gardner Animal Control urges you to neuter and spay your pets and not let them wander outside to start their own population explosion. We can help you with advise on cat care that will help you to be a responsible pet owner. Don't be guilty by adding to the problems of unwanted cats. Remember one female cat's cumulative offspring in ten years could total over 80 million!
