Cowdog Rescue is a completely volunteer effort focused on finding homes for dogs rescued from high-kill shelters. “Cowdogs” are the herding dogs found on ranches in the West and, although our original focus was cowdogs, our name should probably be changed to “Whoever Shows Up Rescue.”
Most dogs featured come from Southern shelters and we take care not to bring breeds of dogs to New England that can easily be found locally. All dogs are neutered or spayed, up-to-date on all shots, heartworm negative, and temperament tested. Because the backgrounds of these dogs are unknown, we prefer adult, dog-savvy homes with securely fenced yards. The adoption process includes an application, phone interviews, reference checks, and home visits.
Remember that Cowdog Rescue is a completely volunteer effort. There are many applicants for each dog and it takes time to review information, check references, and schedule home visits. So please be patient. The goal is to match owners and dogs in such a way that everyone is 150% thrilled forever.
