The Humane Society of
Louisiana is a non-profit animal protection agency based in New Orleans.
Our statewide mission is to prevent cruelty to animals and to rescue animals
from abuse and neglect. The Humane Society networks with independent SPCAs,
humane agencies, law enforcement officials, and private citizens to eliminate
animal abuse. The Humane Society operates a private, no-kill "safe house"
sanctuary, where animals rescued from abuse & neglect are rehabilitated
and adopted.
Two years Later:
They Still Need Homes!
After Hurricane Katrina
damaged H.S.L.A.'s shelter in New Orleans, a temporary site was set up
for the animals in Tylertown, a small Mississippi town located outside
of Louisiana. That temporary site also served as a staging area for the
homeless and displaced animals rescued from the streets and devastated
homes of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, and then Hurricane Rita.
One year later after the devastating Hurricanes destroyed New Orleans
and Mississippi's Gulf Coast, the dogs and cats rescued from the storm-ravaged
area are still homeless. We need your help to give these dogs a permanent
place of their own. Can you offer a home to one these Katrina animals?
If not, do you know anyone who can open up their home to a Katrina animal?
If not, can you help spread the word that we still have animals that are
in need of new homes to replace the homes taken from them by Katrina and
Rita?

Can you find room in your heart and home
for this total cutie??
The Humane Society's
policy is to spay/neuter each animal before releasing him or her to an
adoptive home. Potential adopters should be aware that there would be
a pre-adoption interview with one of our adoption coordinators. This helps
us determine if the adopter and the animal will be a good match. Potential
adopters are advised to have a veterinarian selected. We may have a 24-hour
waiting period for all animals, to allow adopters time to prepare for
their new friends. All cats and dogs are altered before going to their
new home. Adoption fees of $85 cover our expenses to spay/neuter, microchip
and vaccinate the animal.
Please send us
an email if you are interested in giving one of our animals a home.
If You Gave A
Dog A Bed......
Our dogs love relaxing
on patented Kuranda beds. While the dogs like Kuranda beds for their comfort,
we like to use them because they are durable, chew proof, and easy to
clean, and, of course, because our dogs love them! Please visit Kuranda's
website if you would like to donate a bed to our dogs.
Please Do Not
Forget The Animals In New Orleans!
They are still out
there......lonely, hungry, thirsty, and without the homes and families
they once had before the storm. Hurricane Katrina may be off the news
headlines, but the animals that suffered the biggest blow by the Hurricane
still need help. Here
is where you can find out more information on the homeless animals in
post-Katrina New Orleans and how to help.
