The Happy Tails Adoption Center has finally reopened, after Katrina forced its closure for several
months. After the storm, we housed more than 50 cats who were rescued from the floodwaters, all
of whom have finally returned home. Now, it's back to business as we work to find loving families
for pets in need.
Who We Are
Happy Tails Adoption Center was established in 2004 as a collaborative adoption center with
several participating groups. Katrina, of course, changed everything, and our former adoption
partners were sadly unable to continue with the project. The Humane Society of Louisiana has
reopened Happy Tails, however, which is particularly important to us in facilitating adoptions,
since our shelter facility in Algiers was destroyed. For more information on HSL, visit our web

Adopting a friend
Come meet fabulous felines during regular hours. Puppies and dogs are generally available
at special weekend adoption days and by appointment. Please visit the Humane Society of
Louisiana's petfinder site to see all of our adoptable pets. The adoption process requires an interview and will generally take up to 48 hours to finalize, as all of our adoptable pets must be scheduled for
a final veterinary clearance. Our cats will be delivered to your home if the adoption is approved,
so you don't have to worry about making two trips. The adoption fee is $85, a real bargain which
includes all shots, sterilization and microchipping. Our adoption hours are:

We are located at 4021 Jefferson Highway down the street from Jefferson Feed and Seed, which is located at Central Avenue and Jeff. Hwy. We are across from Riverdale High School and next to Ark Animal Hospital.
