HEART BANDITS AMERICAN ESKIMO DOG RESCUE

Heart Bandits is a dog rescue organization devoted to the American Eskimo Dog. Heart Bandits was established in 1996 and is a non-profit, 501c(3) organization. We are proud to be recognized by the AKC and the UKC as the Official American Eskimo Dog Rescue Group of America. We rescue American Eskimo Dogs in need, provide loving care, and find qualified, permanent, adoptive homes for them. Heart Bandits saves American Eskimo Dogs from shelters, humane societies and from situations of neglect and/or cruelty, assists American Eskimo Dogs whose owners can no longer provide a permanent home by finding them new permanent and loving homes.

Heart Bandits is a nonprofit tax-exempt organization with chapters across the USA and Canada. Our Chapter Directors, Foster Homes, Officers, and Trustees are all volunteers. Our rescue efforts are managed out of our own homes and are juggled with our paying jobs and family. Expenses are funded through our Membership, adoption fees, and donations.

We are in need of more foster homes for Eskies in the Wichita, Sedgwick county area!

A foster home takes an Eskie into their home and treats it like one of the family. The foster family is responsible for feeding, watering, bathing, grooming, basic obedience with postitive reinforcement only. Fostering also includes bringing the Eskie to local pet supply stores at least once if not twice a month for a few hours to meet the public and hopefully their new permanent family!!!!! Some Eskies are harder to place than others, so fostering lengths vary. If you would like to adopt one of our eskies, please download the following adoption application TO YOUR OWN COMPUTER, fill it out, and e-mail it to EskieHouse@cox.net .

How do I adopt a Heart Bandits Eskie?

All adoptive homes must complete an adoption application prior to adopting a Heart Bandit American Eskimo Dog. Each application is screened. Based on this information, we will attempt to match you with the appropriate Eskie in your area. We will speak to your current or previous vet and conduct a home visit. All portions of the house must be open to the inspector. Because we are a member of a national group, hold a state license and a city license, we must be able to truthfully say the home was safe and approved.

At the time of the adoption an adoption fee will be charged and you must sign the Heart Bandits adoption agreement. The adoption fee varies with the location of the chapter housing the Eskie and the age of the Eskie, ($125-$200). The fee is based on the average cost of veterinary services in that area and the age of the dog.

All dogs adopted from Heart Bandits, are in good health unless adopted as a "special needs" Eskie, are Spayed/Neutered are current on vaccinations rabies DHLPP (may also include bortadella) and, be Heartworm negative and on preventative.

Though you may think our adoption procedures are a bit stringent, please remember that many of these are dogs have already been separated from a home, and not always a loving one. Some have been through the frightening experience of being in a shelter. We try very hard to make the adoptions successful, and make the best possible decisions for the dogs.

Our adoption process helps to assure us that you are ready for the commitment and responsibility of adopting a dog into your family. Our top priority is the right Eskie into the right home. Adoptions are not completed unless everyone is happy - you, the Chapter Director involved, and the Eskie.

Speaking of donations.......we are always in need of

dry dog food, 10 dogs go through a bag really quick, we use Pedigree adult, and light, dog treats of any hard crunchy kind,

small gift certificates for vet office to help pay for rabies shots, HW tests and HW medicines,

I have learned to give the distemper shots myself to save even more money!

    old towels,

Pine cleaners for the crates and floors,

automatic dish washing soap for washing out the food and water bowls every day.

Dawn Blue Dishwashing liquid to wash the dogs every other week, IF they don't go play in some dirt or mud!

red copy paper since we use it to print up our little flyers to give out to people.

Packages of white business cards and address labels for the printer are needed too.

bricks, paver/patio stones, 5ft tall fencing, chain link, privacy, rod iron, lattice boards work great for semi privacy areas for the dogs too. Used and in decent condition is fine!

Help cutting down some dead limbs from trees that overhang our doggie play area.

    Adopting a friend

Why should I adopt a dog from Rescue?

There is a wonderful, loving Eskie waiting for you.

By adopting from Heart Bandits, you are helping to save the life of an Eskie in need. By not purchasing from a pet store, puppy mill, or backyard breeder you are refusing to support the puppies-for-profit industry. Rescue organizations are not against all breeding. There are high quality conscientious breeders who understand the need to continue the breed without contributing to the millions of dogs killed in shelters each year.
