Meet Duke!

Duke was pulled out of the great flood of 2008. He is such a sweetie. He was so dirty when he came in that he looked like he was a mud brown, but he just wagged his tail while we bathed him. Check out his page by clicking on the photo.

My name is Red. I am looking for a forever home!! I am sweet and beautiful. Come visit me and my friends to see if your forever friend is at our shelter.

Sugar-free Candy and Gum

Sugar-free candy and gum may be sweet enough for you, ASPCA News Alert readers, but they can possibly be toxic to your animal companions. According to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC), xylitol--a sweetener found in certain sugar-free chewing gum, candies and other products--can potentially cause serious, even life-threatening problems for pets.
Based on data collected from the 40-plus related cases the center has managed since last July, canines who have ingested significant amounts of gum or candy solely or largely containing xylitol may develop a sudden drop in blood sugar, resulting in depression, loss of coordination and seizures. "These signs can develop quite rapidly, at times less than 30 minutes after ingestion," says Dr. Eric Dunayer, consulting veterinarian for the APCC. "Therefore, it is important that pet owners seek veterinary treatment immediately."
The APCC advises pet owners to be especially diligent about keeping candy, gum or other foods containing xylitol out of their animals' reach. For more information on how to protect your pet from potentially dangerous substances, please visit the ASPCA website at www.aspca.org/

Please Spay or Neuter Your Pet

All vets in your local city/ town can be contacted to schedule your pet's spay or neuter. You will be part of the solution by having your pet "fixed" - Call us if you have questions about why you should have your companion animal spayed or neutered. Or talk with your veterinarian. Please, make a difference and help prevent those unwanted litters...

Seeking Volunteers!

Volunteers needed to aid in fundraising, grooming animals, walking dogs, and other odd jobs. Times are flexible. Call for further information or to set up times to volunteer.

Microchip Information - Permanent Identification

You can now have a microchip inserted under your animals' skin at the Animal Shelter!
The microchip is a permanent identification that can be used to return your pet to you. Most animal shelters and veterinary clinics have the capabilities to scan the chip implanted in your animal. This will give them your information and the animal will be returned to you. Most animals surrendered at the shelter or picked up by an officer do not have collars or tags. These animals have a lower possiblity of being reunited with their owner.
Here is some important information: Microchipping cost $25.00
No appointment is needed and there is no limit to the number of animals you can have microchipped!!
