We have many beautiful, loving, well-socialized dogs and cats awaiting adoption. We have more animals than what is listed on Petfinder (some are here, some are in foster homes). Please contact us if you have a request for a certain type of pet and do not see it on our listing.
News
PVCHS has been helping the animals in Parke and Vermillion Counties, Indiana, since April of 1991. The shelter was built in 2000 and opened in late November, 2000.
Who We Are
The PVCHS is a non-profit private organization committed to the education of the public in the humane treatment of all animals, the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among animals, and the importance of animal population control through the promotion of spaying and neutering.
Adopting a friend
Our adoption fees are $110 for dogs and $50-$60 for cats, unless otherwise stated. All of our animals have been vaccinated, wormed and most have been spayed or neutered. Cats have been Feline Leukemia and FIV tested as well. We also perform behavior assessments on all dogs over five months of age. We do not ship animals to adopters, but can make arrangements to meet adopters at Petsmart in Terre haute, if that is more convenient. Adopters are always welcome to come see all of our animals at the shelter during open hours or by making an appointment by calling us at 765-492-3540. Adopters are encouraged to bring all family members to help meet and select their new pet. Potential adopters are also encouraged to complete an adoption application form on-line at www.pvchs.cfsites.org. This will allow for pre-approval and speed up the adoption process. We are located in west-central Indiana, on State Road 63, 2.2 mi south of Newport, IN at the 59 mile marker. (We are directly behind the Vermillion County Jail, and share the same entrance road). Our physical address is 1884 S. SR 63, Hillsdale. Other references: 14.4 mi North of SR163 (to Clinton), 4.4 mi North of SR 36 (to Rockville), apprx 28 mi No of I-70; apprx 17 mi So of I-74.
We show animals from 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Appointments may be made to see an animal on a closed day at any time as well, if that is more convenient.
Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone.
