Who We Are
Our group is a very small group made up entirely of volunteers. These people are friends and family members who care about animals. Our focus in the past has been helping homeless animals in our community. We have placed hundreds of pets since 2005.
Who We Want To Be
In June of 2007 we decided as a group that kittens are puppies were being born in our community faster than we could place them. Of course every animal older than 8 weeks is spayed and neuter prior to finding their forever home, but unaltered pets in our community can produce faster than we can place. We decided to step back and start at the problem. Pet owners in our community needed assistance in obtaining AFFORDABLE spay/neuters, not only for pets, but feral cats and stray dogs. We became transport partners for the Kentucky Humane SNIP Clinic and starting offering a low cost spay/neuter program each and every month. June 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007 we were able to send a total of 132 cats and dogs. Since the start of 2008, we have sent 190 cats, dogs, puppies and kittens.
PLEASE Spay and Neuter!
There is no excuse to have an unaltered pet in Dearborn County. There are several low cost options, so please call for more information. You MUST leave a message if you would like a return call. You can also e-mail for more information. If you have a pet with babies currently, we will also assist in finding homes for the baby puppies or kittens if you agree to help with spays and neuters. There are several programs available, so it is very important to call for information. It is up to each and every member in our community to be responsible for their own pets.
Dogs and Cats
We do not take cats. We do not have fosters available.
We take dogs from shelters. Often times, we do not contact shelters, we wait for someone to contact us about an URGENT situation.
We also take dogs from private owners. To surrender a dog, you must have your dog up to date on all vaccines, spayed/neutered, and heartworm tested. If these things have not been done, you must be willing to donate the money it will take to get these things done for your pet.
We do not take stray dogs. Stray dogs must be held for a certain length of time to give owners a chance to find them. If you find a stray you would like us to consider, the dog must be in your possession for 14 days and you need a vet bill of some sort as proof of ownership.
Think About This...
Don't get a Dog if ...
You can not afford to take him to a vet when he gets sick or injured.
You can not afford dog food and heart worm and flea prevention.
You can not afford annual rabies and parvo vaccinations.
You can not afford to spay or neuter them.
You do not have a stable living situation which allows dogs.
You do not have a stable job or income.
You don't plan to keep him inside and leash walk him or you don't have a secure fenced area.
You don't plan to socialize him to people and other pets and obedience train him.
You plan to leave him outside without much attention. Dogs that are left neglected outside become unhappy and cause barking problems or worse.
You are getting the dog just for your kids. You will be the one responsible for his care, so don't get a dog just because your son wants one.
You aren't committed to caring for him for his entire 10-15 year lifespan.
Interested in Adopting?
If you are interested in adopting, please e-mail us for more information. We are not always able to answer the phone. There is an application process. PLEASE do not ask for an unaltered pet. We will never, under any circumstance adopt a pet unaltered!!
Where Are We?
Our group does not have one central business location. Each member provides a different service for our group. The location for our low cost spay/neuter event sometimes changes from month to month. The following locations have been used and are highly probable for future use. Manchester Community Park (behind the Mancheste r Market), Milan Community Park (next to the high school) and Kerri Fox allows us to use her driveway when weather conditions are either too hot or too cold. Please call for your appointment for our spay/neuter program and we will provide you with the sign-up information and location.
