YOU KNOW, I HAVE BEEN WAITING, AND WAITING, AND WAITING. My name is Pixie and I'm SO glad you're here!
Pixie is a petite, cute-as-a-button tabby and she was born around October of 2006. When she first arrived to A Caring Place she also brought with her 4 kittens; A Caring Place rescued her along with her kittens from a pound where they were scheduled to be euthanized for space because the pound was so full. Pixie's kittens have all been adopted but it is now her turn to find a fantastic furrever home.
Pixie is affectionate, energetic, outgoing and a kitty that really loves to play. Pixie makes friends with everyone and especially enjoys the company of other cats. She is current on her shots, tested negative for FELV/FIV, has been spayed and microchipped. She is currently in foster care waiting for cage space. If you'd like more information on Pixie, call 630-375-7976 to speak with the Cat Program Director and potentially schedule an appointment and meet this beautiful girl!
AMBASSADOR OF THE BULLY BREED - Miss Samantha
This gorgeous girl is SAMANTHA, a very loving, female, American Pit Bull Terrier mix weighing approximately 40 pounds at 10 months of age. She has a beautiful short coat of tan/fawn and white, and a face with eyes full of love.
Samantha is a kind and sensitive little girl. She was found as a small puppy in a junk yard in deplorable conditions. Despite her previous existance, that hasn't stopped Samantha from being an awesome dog. She is great with other dogs AND cats - and adores human companionship. Additionally, she is really good with children, but because she is still a puppy sometimes she forgets how big she is and she will bump into small children. Samantha is not food possessive at all and frankly doesn't even mind sharing her food with dog, cat, or human. She is in love with frisbees. and knows simple commands such as sit, down, etc, but will require additional training and consistency. Most of all Samantha needs a loving and caring home that appreciates her vibrant personality and her playful spirit.
Samantha is crate trained , however still requires a little incentive, like the kong filled with treats. She sleeps in his foster's bed and loves to cuddle with him. Samantha has been spayed, inoculated against disease, dewormed, tested for HW disease and placed on monthly prevention, plus microchipped. If you are interested in this beautiful girl, please contact us. If you have an interest in this dog, please contact us by email at acaringplace@comcast.net or by phone at 630-375-7976. Applications are available online at www.acaringplacehs.org
The animals highlighted above, plus many others, are available for adoption each and every day. Many of the cats and kittens in our adoption system are available for viewing in the Adoption Center of the Orland Hills PETSMART during store hours (9277 W. 159th Street just east of LaGrange Rd.). Adoptions for cats and kittens are performed on Saturdays between 10:30 and 2:30 and by appointment.
A Caring Place is showing the dogs in our adoption system on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at two locations. We show some of the dogs at the Orland Hills PETSMART (address above) and other dogs will be shown at the Countryside PETsMART(24 Countryside Plaza) off of LaGrange Road just north of Joliet Road. At both of these locations, we will show the dogs between the hours of 10:30 and 1:30. Check the descriptions of the dogs on Petfinder to know which dog will be at which location.
Between the regularly scheduled showing dates, we also show dogs by appointment once an application is received. Please note that we do not adopt dogs at the showings at Petco or Petsmart because we require a home visit as part of the application process.

A Caring Place Humane Society is always fundraising to subsidize our income due to extensive veterinary bills. Adoption fees do not cover the costs of many of our animals, so we are always in need of donations. Please help the animals in our care by making a generous monetary donation to A Caring Place Humane Society. You can mail your contribution to our PO box or drop it off at the Orland Hills Petsmart on Saturdays between 10:30 and 2:30.
We are an Illinois not-for-profit corporation and a recognized 501(c)(3) charity so monetary donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. You can make a secure online donation right here through our PayPal account. Please consider helping us out.
A Caring Place Humane Society of Darien, Illinois is a no-kill, non-facility, all-volunteer humane society operating in the Chicagoland area offering adoption opportunities for cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies.
We are an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, recognized 501(c)(3) charity with the Internal Revenue Service, and licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture as a humane society. We are supported only by gifts from our caring friends since A Caring Place receives no governmental or corporate funding, and minimal adoption fees when our animals go to their new forever homes.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
The compassion and love of animals, plus our belief in the positive effects of animal companionship, compelled us to create an organization that focuses on helping animals by working diligently with people. A Caring Place works to decrease animal suffering, lessen the number of homeless cats and dogs, and reduce animal euthanasia. With the goal of helping people live effectively in partnership with their companion animals, we work with current and potential companion animal guardians teaching proper and responsible animal care and providing advice for behavioral issues.
A Caring Place takes in animals from different sources including those relinquished by owners/guardians and good samaritans and makes them available for adoption. However, our primary source for animals are those at highest risk of being killed in animal control agencies, shelters both local and from other states, and veterinary offices due to lack of space or opportunity.
Because most of the animals we take in have had at least one home already, we choose to adopt only to those individuals who are willing to make a permanent, life-time commitment to an animal. A reasonable adoption fee is charged to help recover the costs of the medical care as well as the food and shelter provided to for the animal. If there is an animal you are interested in applying for, please contact us at 630-375-7976 or by sending an email. Please note that all household members must be present at the time of the adoption interview.
CATS & KITTENS The adoption fee for cats over six months of age is $110 and kittens younger than six months are $125* each. Please note that we do not adopt our cats or kittens out of state; we focus on adopting locally.
DOGS & PUPPIES The adoption fee for mixed breed dogs over six months of age is $200; puppies under six months of age are $225, and all purebred dogs and puppies are $250. These prices are subject to change.

Foster Care Providers for both cats/kittens and dogs/puppies are very much needed at this time. With spring just around the corner, this humane society will be inundated with kittens needing fostering, as well as pregnant cats. Experienced dog owners/guardians are needed to help with dogs who have been less fortunate - to provide love and care, to teach basic house manners, and some to provide basic obedience training.
Foster care is a very rewarding experience for people and is especially beneficial to the animals this humane society takes into their adoption system. If you are one of those special people willing to open your heart and home to an animal in need and would like to receive information on how you can foster an animal, please contact us.
