Our Pet List

Just the DOGS! Just the CATS!

Together We Can

DESPERATE TIMES!!

Our shelter is FULL! We have had 19 dogs come into the shelter in just 3 days! Nineteen!! Eight of those dogs came from one trailer as possible abandonment cases. The rest are strays who may have homes and people looking for them. I am listing the dogs as quickly as I can but don't have a lot of information at this point. Unfortunately, we are extremely limited on space so some of these super nice dogs may not even make it onto Petfinder. We have already had to euthanize and unless we can find placement through rescues or adoptions NOW more will be euthanized as soon as tomorrow, July 2nd. If your animal is missing please check with us to see if your wonderful pet is at the shelter. We only have a 3 day wait period for reclaim. If you wait too long, that wonderful cat or dog may have been euthanized. You need to call as soon as that animal is missing and we will post a message on our board. When new animals come in, we check the board and if someone has come in matching that description we will call you. All it takes is one phone call to possibly save the life of your cat or dog. Don't wait to make that call. Please consider adopting from your local shelter. We have so many amazing animals that are in desperate need of new homes and with the overwhelming numbers that have come in lately, some just don't stand a chance of making it out of the shelter without your help. If you are considering adopting, contact us now. Your newest best friend may be waiting for you at our shelter.

Spring is upon us again!

We all know what that means. Puppy and kitten season has already started. We get so many in at the shelter this time of year. Either the momma has a bunch of kittens or puppies or she is pregnant. Unfortunately, we get them in faster than we can place them. Do you ever wonder what happens to that cute little kitten or puppy at the shelter? Some run out of time when we have to make room for the new animals coming in. Occasionally some will get euthanized before we even have a chance to take their pictures and get them posted on Petfinder. This is the time of year we want to remind responsible pet owners to spay or neuter their pets to avoid unwanted kittens and puppies. Shelters all over the country get over run by kittens and puppies. It is a shame that so many of these babies will never get a chance to grow up. This can be prevented, though. If each owner would get their pet spayed or neutered then the vast number of unwanted kittens and puppies would decrease and less would have to be euthanized. There are programs set in place to help with the cost of spaying and neutering and shelters usually offer a voucher to help with the cost. Some shelters have already had the surgeries done and include the cost in the adoption fee. We have a voucher available for Fulton County residents. All they have to do is fill out an application and turn it in. Once it is approved they can pick it up at our office. All vets have their own set prices. Don't be put off by the first vet just because their price is high. There are some that offer lower cost spaying and neutering. You just have to call around and check for the lowest price. Some will also work with you on a payment plan. You will never know unless you ask. Did you know that one unspayed female cat, her mate, and all of their offspring can increase the feline population by approximately 20,736 cats in only four years?!! That is over 5,000 cats EACH year from one set of cats. So if you think it won't matter if you spay or neuter your cat, think again. Just think of what we could do if everyone did the responsible thing and had their pets spayed and neutered. Senseless deaths of thousands of helpless kittens, dogs, cats, and puppies could be prevented. Shelters wouldn't be overflowing. And many lives could be saved. Won't you please consider having your pets spayed or neutered? If you have already done so, THANK YOU!

Adopting a Friend

Adopting from the Humane Society of Fulton County: A $100 deposit is required. $75 will be returned to you after proof of vaccinations, altering and micro-chipping. A $50 voucher is provided to help defray the cost of spay/neuter. In the case where an animal has already been altered the $75 is returned after proof of vaccinations and micro-chipping. Cats that are featured at Petsmart will have a flat adoption fee since they will already be spayed or neutered and will be up to date on their shots.

Volunteering and Donations

Volunteers and donations are always welcome. If you are retired, a stay at home mom, or just have some extra time remember we need you! Just knowing that you have helped a homeless animal is very fulfilling. Our volunteers are valued and respected. We have Volunteer Orientations monthly. Please call the office 309-647-5077 and leave your name/number indicating you would like to volunteer or email us, we will contact you. We are always in need of $$, of course. The Humane Society provides all the dogs parvo/distemper vaccinations upon entering the shelter. We test all dogs that are adopted with a heartworm check. Cats are tested for FIV/Leuk before adoption. Also, we try to give basic medical care while the animals are at the shelter. Gas money for transport of animals to rescues would be much appreciated as well. We know how tough things are right now. Not only our food but the cost of gas has skyrocketed. Any amount of $$ you can give will help. You can mail your donations to: HSFC, P.O. Box 701, Canton, IL 61520. Thank you! Email for directions or go to www.mapquest.com or yahoo.com.
