Humane Society of Central Illinois

Who Are We?

Mission Statement

"The Humane Society of Central Illinois (HSCI) is committed to the prevention of cruelty, abuse and neglect of animals through its adoption center, cruelty investigations, spay / neuter assistance program, and humane awareness and education".

A not-for-profit animal welfare organization, HSCI does not receive federal, state or local tax dollars. In addition to nominal membership and adoption fees, HSCI relies heavily on donations from individuals, foundations, and local businesses who also have a commitment to animal welfare.

The HSCI has a membership of over 900 individuals, volunteers who dedicate countless hours each year, humane investigators who handle over 500 cases each year, and spay/neuter over 1,000 animals on-site or through discounts with local veterinarians. The HSCI helps more than 2,200 animals annually.

Pet Adoption Center

At the heart of our operation is the Pet Adoption Center. This 9,200 square foot facility provides formerly-owned or abandoned pets with a second chance to find a responsible home. Our staff and volunteers handle hundreds of animals each year...some injured or lost, many simply discarded. We vaccinate, spay/neuter, socialize, and groom all the animals in the Center.

If you are located in the Central Illinois area, please check our Adoptable Cats, Adoptable Dogs, and Adoptable Rabbits and More... webpages to see some of the pets we currently have available for adoption. Only some of the pets we have available are included on the Petfinder Pet List, since our population of pets changes constantly. If you are not located in the Central Illinois area, please check with your local Humane Society or rescue organization to see the pets they have available for adoption.

HSCI Membership

Could you please help us? Your membership is vital. Your support provides for the adoption of over 1,000 animals per year; a spay/neuter program that addresses the very heart of pet overpopulation; an active education program program that teaches respect and compassion for all living creatures; and abuse and neglect investigation. Without your support we cannot survive.
