Who We Are
We are people who love all animals, especially dogs, and want to make a difference.
Adopting a friend
We want to find our dogs perfect homes. The homes we look for are homes that see dogs as, not just an animal, but a member of the family! Dogs have so much unconditional love, they deserve the same in return. They don't like and should never be tied or chained outside..... they are social animals and this is one of the most cruel things you can do to them. All our dogs are spayed or neutered as is in accordance with Iowa Law. If we can't get them done before adoption ( if they are too young) it is in the contract that it has to be done by a specified date. I take this very seriously, as does every Rescue Group I know. If you don't want a spayed or neutered pet, a rescued dog isn't for you.
I work at an Animal Hospital, and we are seeing more and more testicular cancers and mammary tumors that may have been prevented with spays and neuters. Every one of the owners of these dogs is crushed after learning it may have been prevented with a rather simple, one-time surgery. If you are reading this an you already have an dog that is not neutered or spayed, I urge you to wait to get another dog until you get your first dog's surgery. It doesn't make them fat and lazy ( over-feeding does) and they don't feel the need to "mark their territory" as much after surgery.
We also want to get the word out about the "just one litter" syndrome. If you know someone like this, I beg you to try to get them to stop. I've come across so many people saying " I have to have "Lucy" have pups, she's not going to live forever and I want a pup just like her." well, first of all, there is another parent involved, your probably won't get another puppy like her. Then what happens to the other pups in the litter. Oh, you find them all homes, but they are out there having more and more litters (unless you found responsible pet owners) It's not "just one litter"at all and all this is causing the pet over-population. It's really sad to think, and I'm sure these backyard " just one litter" people say they love their dogs, but THEY are the ones causing so many dogs to be euthanized!! They don't see life at the Animal Hospital, or at so many Humane Societies back rooms. TRUE DOG LOVERS HATE EUTHANASIA! Unless it's absolutely necessary to put an animal out of it's suffering. Please help get the word out =O)
I don't mean to preach, I'm just really wanting to get the word spread.
