News

Our Humane Society has a tremendous selection of nice cats. All of our animals are up to date on vet work and some even have come into our care previously declawed. Feline adoption fee is normally $65.00 but during the entire summer, cats are half price and kittens are priced two for one. Many kittens are available now in the purrfect season. All have been spayed or neutered and examined by our Veterinarian.

Who We Are


The Muscatine Humane Society finds it's new home in the Nancy E. Kent Animal Shelter located at 920 So. Houser St, Muscatine, Iowa. The entire property and building and it's contents were graciously donated by Nancy E. Kent, it opened in July of 1996. The shelter capacity is 85-100 animals. There are 45 large chain link kennels and 50 state-of-the-art cat cages. We run entirely on donations and hope to provide that all important "second chance" for adoptable pets.


Our Mission

The mission of the Muscatine Humane Society is to educate the public of the importance and dire necessity to spay and neuter their animals to prevent the needless suffering that follows pet overpopulation. Concurrently the Society provides a safe haven for lost or abandoned animals until their owners or new homes can be obtained.

Adopting a Friend

Our hours are:

Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Adoption fees:

Prevously Altered dogs - $80.00
Unaltered Dogs $135-$150 depending on our costs for surgery.
Altered cats - $65.00
(The adoption fee covers the entire spay or neuter surgery for non-altered animals.)
All animals are vaccinated against contagious diseases, wormed, groomed and temperament tested prior to being offered for adoption.
Pre-Adoption applications are required as we are dedicated to match pets with owners that will provide them with a happy home for the duration of their lives.
*We reserve the right to deny anyone adoption of a pet.

We are a mile or so off of Hwy 61 on the south end of town. From the south, turn left on Houser and it's a short drive on the left hand side. From the north, take the Hwy 61 bypass to Hershey. Turn left on Hershey, then take the first right, which is Houser, then we're just down on the right. The sign says Nancy E. Kent Animal Shelter.
