News

In July 2006 my husband came home from Pukalani Foodland with a ball of fur in his hands. It was a few week old kitten that weighed about a pound and was the size of a can of Coke. It had more fleas than fur and an eye infection. We gave him a bath and called the Maui Humane Society. Unfortuntly because of his bad condition and overwhelming amount of kittens they could take him, but only to euthanize him. We decided to give him a chance and nurse him to health so that he was adoptable.

We contacted 9th Life Hawai'i. They were able to provide us with medicine, food, kitty litter and some Cat 411 like, no he can't use a tupperware as a kitty litter box. We didn't know. We're dog people!

Tako has now been living with us for 8 months. Although we were sure we'd send him on his way he quickly made an impression on us. Tako is the most affectionate cat I have ever met. He came to us barely hanging on and now is thriving. He is the most affectionate wonderful cat I have ever met. Wherever we go, he goes. If we're on the couch, he's on the couch. Tako has taught our family the importance of one family. Just taking one cat off the street and having him neutered we've kept hundreds of cats off the streets. We couldn't have done it with out the support and education of 9th Life Hawai'i. Thank you!

One Small Tako even has his own webpage :) http://www.catster.com/cats/355907

Who We Are

9th Life Hawaii is a no-kill shelter and rescue for Maui's neediest cats. Our purpose is to humanely, compassionately, and non-lethally control cat overpopulation by spaying and neutering. Our vision is to lead the Hawaiian Islands into adopting "No-Kill, No More Homeless Pets" by bringing Maui to the forefront of this philosophy that is being embraced planet-wide. 9th Life Hawaii has been providing free or low cost spay/neuter services for cats in the care of island residents. We also provide sanctuary for homeless and abandoned cats that have no where else to safely stay and we have just begun a program to place older cats with senior citizens.

Adopting a friend

9th LIFE has strict policies regarding adoptions to assure that all rescued kitties have a good home. We ask each adopter to sign a form, agreeing to 5 points:

1. I will provide a safe and loving environment for my companion by assuring that I provide regular food, fresh water& vet care.

2. If I find that I cannot properly care for my pet, I will notify 9th Life immediately, and will never resort to abandonment or unnecessary euthanasia.

3.I agree to pay a one time adoption fee of $50.00.

4. I assure that my pet (if too young when adopted) will be spayed/neutered at the appropriate age.

5. I will provide my telephone # and street address on this form so 9th Life can make routine follow up inquiries to ensure all conditions are being met.

Come Visit Us!

9th Life Hawaii cannot disclose it's precise location to the general public since this invites 'cat dumping', which can be very disruptive to the 135 healthy cats we keep on the premises. You may call us to make arrangements for an exclusive tour. To learn more, check our website at: http://www.9thLifeHawaii.org OR our new blog at http://9thLifeHawaii.blogspot.com.
