Updated Sept. 21, 2008

We are presently not taking in any guinea pigs. Our rescue as of Dec. 1st will no longer be housing any rescues. We will maintain this website after Dec. 1st and post information on guinea pigs needing homes that are not in our care. If you have considered starting a guinea pig rescue, we would be happy to help guide you.

Used Cages for Sale - We have several used and disinfected cages for sale starting at $10 up to $30. E-mail us and we'll send you photos and specifics.

T-Shirts from this year's PigStock are now available to you through the mail. If you live in the continental USA we can mail it to you free of charge. Shirts are $15 each. We have Pink (small, large, XL), Brown (small, med.,large,XL) and Gray (med., large). Tie Dye (various colors) XL only. E-mail us for more details.

What you need to do to adopt:

1. Please read this entire page as it provides a lot of information.

2. E-mail us for an application and return it to us completely filled out. This application must be filled out by an adult. We only adopt to adults.

3. Take a photo of the cage you intend to house the guinea pigs in and e-mail it to us. Your cage must be approved before you can visit the pigs to adopt.

There are cage size minimum requirements. The minimum size for 2 guinea pigs is 30 inches by 60 inches(that means bottom floor space and does not include lofts or upper levels). We only approve hand build cage because store bought cages do not meet our size requirements. It is cheaper to build your own as well.

**Check out this site for great Do-It-Yourself cages. Easy to build and low in cost but big in size. A 2 by 4 panel cage is our minimum size for two guinea pigs.**

What we do...

All incoming guinea pigs are quarantined for 21 days min. where they are monitored for illness and treated for mites and any other ailments. We treat all incoming pigs for mites even if they are asymptomatic. Females over the age of 4 weeks that might have been with males or come into the rescue with males are put on a pregnancy watch for 60 days. During their entire stay with us, all the guinea pigs are fed high quality Oxbow feeds, high quality hays, a wide assortment of vegetables and fruits with fresh well water. We help put them back on the road to good health.

Who We Are

We are a privately run licensed, rescue shelter in Cumming, Georgia. In 2005 we became the North Georgia Guinea Pig Rescue. We are licensed by the State of Georgia and specialize only in guinea pigs.

How many pigs?

Guinea Pigs are herd animals. We will adopt single pigs out if you have a companion pig already. We will not adopt a single pig out to be alone. If you are seeking a companion for a pig that you currently have, only a pig of the same sex or a spayed/neutered pig will be made available for you to adopt.

ADOPTION FEES are as follows and are NONREFUNDABLE:

Single pig is-$20.00 and it is $30.00 for a pair.

Neutered Males (when available) - $55.00 each

We are here to answer any additional questions you may have or to direct you to someone that can help.

Things To Know

* Guinea Pigs have an average life span of 5 to 7 years with some living as long as 9 years.

*The proper name for a guinea pig is cavy.

*Guinea Pigs are hay eaters. It is the foundation of their diet. If you have hay allergies this will be a problem for you.

*Like humans, cavies' bodies do not make vitamin C and like us they will develop scurvy, a debilitating and deadly disease, if they lack enough vitamin C in their diets. Feeding daily vegitables and fruits is the best way to prevent scruvy. We do not recommend vit. C drops in the water bottle.
