News

Heartsong Animal Rescue is currently working toward building a sanctuary where the unplaceable animals we take in can have a forever home with the love and care they so desreve. Who We Are

Heartsong Animal Rescue, although not known by that name then, began in 1976 with the rescue of Sunny. Sunny was a black-mane African lioness who was living in a small cage with several other large cats, of different varieties. Sunny suffered from malnutrition, rickets, and was in need of medical attention. We rescued her, and brought her back to health. She lived out her days in our care

Our services for rehabilitation are centered on homeopathic wellness, excellent veterinary care, and behavior modification and training.

Buddy, pictured, had a broken leg when he came to us. After a long healing and recovery, he has been placed in a forever home. Molly was a successful amputee, who has now found a wonderful forever home. She came to us with a shattered leg that had to be removed. We held fundraisers and she received the treatment she needed to be a happy, healthy pet.

Your Donations make a difference in the life of an animal.

We work with animals who have been neglected, abused, are injured, aged, and/or have behavioral problems.
The rescues we take in are tested for FIV/FeLeuk, Heartworm, and are treated for injuries and illnesses prior to being placed in new homes. They are also vaccinated and altered.
We work very hard to litter train, housebreak, and otherwise socialize the animals so when they enter their new home, they do so confidently and with as little trauma as possible. We are not your run of the mill shelter. We believe in readying the animal for its new environment and therefore some of the animals are with us for an extended period. This adds up in the cost of care, but our return rate is exceptionally low.

KATIE is in need of YOUR help. She is a beautiful dog who needs surgery to walk. Heartsong is hosting fundraisers on her behalf to raise $2000.00 for her much needed surgery. Please go to our website and donate. www.heartsonganimalrescue.com

Donations allow us to continue the good work we do, and allow us to maintain the quality of care and rehabilitation these animals deserve. We currently rescue animals from 12 counties in GA and from the general public.

We need donations of dog food, newspapers, cat food and more...see our wish list here and on our website. We are in need of a larger van so we can rescue more animals from the deplorable conditions at high kill shelters.

Rosie was rescued as a pregnant mama on "kill day" at a shelter in North GA. She is now safe and has raiseed her 6 beautiful puppies. They have been successfully adopted, and she is being rehabbed to be placed in a home. She was badly abused, neglected and frightend, but is making wonderful progress.

Your donations will allow us to continue to take in the needy pets who deserve a second change.

All donations can be made from the website, or contact us to mail a donation. We are a 501(c) 3 non profit organization. All donations are tax deductible. Check with your local tax laws to determine the amount of deduction allowed. www.heartsonganimalrescue.com

INTERNSHIP AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

THE INTERN PROGRAM WAS A GREAT SUCCESS! We had 20 students in our first INTERN COURSE . They ranged in age from 9 years old to adults in their 30's and 40's. The response has been amazing. This program is free to the public...check back for updates and when the next course begins. Early spring 2008 another course will be offered. Check back for details.
Volunteers are needed to foster our animals, help with training, grooming, and occasionally doing in home pet care of our current foster residents when an owner must leave town. Must be 9 years of age or older.

VOLUNTEERS are needed at our adoptions as well. If you are good with the public, enjoy being around animals and are ready for a great challenge, we need you at our adoption site.

We hold adoptions from 11AM to 4 PM on Saturdays and from 11:45 am to 4pm on Sunday at the PetSmart in the Target Center. For December and January, we also have our cats and kittens in the pet center, and WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to go in and clean cages, play with the kitties, and keep the food and water fresh. Please call to help us!

To volunteer or sign up for an internship call us at 706-855-1241.
