If you are in the Augusta area and have some spare time Tues-Sat from 1:00-4:45..why not volunteer at the shelter?
Want some beneficial exercise? Why not walk a shelter dog! Not only do you get some exercise, but our animals benefit too! The fresh air, exercise, and human contact is just what our dogs need to find them wonderful homes!!!
The construction of the new Animal Shelter and Animal Services offices were completed and operational in January of 2004. The new facility is located on Mack Lane off Tobacco Road adjacent to the old facility.
This high-tech, state-of-the-art facility was contsructed with Special Option Local Sales Tax funds. The new shelter is 17,500 square feet with the capability to hold 316 animals. There are 60 kennels for adoptable dogs and 56 cages for adoptable cats.
Do you have an old cell phone, collecting dust in a drawer? Bring it with you and donate it when you come to visit the shelter. The phone will be turned in, and the shelter receives money for them. All proceeds directly benefit the animals!
Who We Are
Augusta Animal Services (formerly Augusta- Richmond County Animal Control) is the sole provider of animal services to Richmond County(Augusta). Our mission is to protect human safety, property and animal welfare by controlling animals and enforcing the law.
The majority of dogs and cats admitted to the municipal animal control shelter of Augusta-Richmond County becomes a number, a statistic to be counted, inventoried and moved like merchandise. Most will die silently, frightened and alone and disposed of like trash at the county landfill. Please consider adopting one of these wonderful, loving animals.
Adopting a friend
The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 1:00pm - 5:00 pm. If you see a pet you might be interested in, please call the shelter and ask to speak with Christine. Or email me at: cejohnson@augustaga.gov
Also, please understand that due to the availability of pets and our constant efforts to have them adopted, some animals may not be available. We are always understaffed so please do not give up when calling. Please visit our county website by clicking here.
