Our Featured Pet...
...is Bongo (click on our pet list for her picture).
Bongo is a bit shy with new people, but earning her affection is certainly worth a little patience. She's really very sweet and enjoys playing. As you can tell from the picture, she's trying to decide what to play with first.
News
New location opens!
We are excited to announce that after a lengthy, thorough search, Good Mews has found a new home in East Cobb! We are fortunate to have secured a place in the Fountains at Olde Towne Pavillion, an upscale shopping center at 736 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite A-3. We have completed the move and our cats are in their new home! Adoptions are held each Saturday from 10-4 and 1st and 3rd Sundays from 1-4. Donations & volunteers are always needed.
Who We Are
In 1988, one woman decided there must an alternative to shelters that euthanize unwanted cats. She couldn't find one. So she created one.
Fifteen years ago, Gloria Skeen started Good Mews from the living room of her Atlanta apartment. While we have certainly come a long way from these humble roots, our commitment remains the same: finding secure, loving homes for otherwise unwanted cats and kittens. In the last three years, we have placed 4169 cats into new homes, and 159 so far this year.
We provide a cage-free, no-kill environment for our residents with regular meals and extensive medical care. The only time our cats are caged is for medical observation (and a 15 day quarantine period upon arrival to the shelter). Once a cat has been accepted into the shelter population, it has a home for life. No cat is ever euthanized to make room for another, and euthanasia is performed ONLY when a state of terminal suffering has been diagnosed by our team of veterinarians.
The cats are free to roam the shelter at will, interacting with each other, the volunteers, and visitors. Numerous "cat-trees", shelves, and toys are provided. We also have several "shy rooms" where our shy or easily-scared cats can comfortably reside away from the general population.
Our cats come to us from households that can no longer care for them or as stray cats. Many of our residents arrive abused, neglected, or terribly afraid. Often times, these cats are in urgent need of medical care. Our dedicated staff of volunteers spend countless hours cuddling, grooming, and helping these cats to trust and love humans again.
