Meet our Adoptable Pets!

Euthanasia

Gulf Coast Humane Society does not euthanize for lack of space or length of time spent at our facility. Our board of directors has set very strict guidelines for the performance of euthanasia:
  • ONLY animals found to have health conditions that are deemed untreatable or severely contagious and will place the other pets in the Society's care in harm will be considered for euthanasia.
  • ONLY those animals found to be severely aggressive and are a threat to the general public will be considered for euthanasia. In cases of severe aggression we utilize a 5-step policy before such a decision is made.

Spay & Neuter

GCHS spays and/or neuters all animals prior to adoption. Spaying and neutering is the first step in the battle against pet overpopulation. Spaying and neutering your pets also provides numerous health and behavioral benefits. To learn more about spaying and neutering your companion animal, click here.

  • Ages 13-15 must have a parent/guardian with them at all times.

Volunteer at GCHS!

With the expansion of many programs, we always have need for new volunteers! Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer without a parent or guardian. Children 13 -15 may volunteer with a parent on-site who is also a volunteer.

January 2, 2008 - Exciting New Volunteer Opportunity:

The Gulf Coast Humane Society is looking for active, people- and pet-friendly adults to greet visitors to the shelter and answer the telephone. The ideal persons for this volunteer position would be outgoing adults who love to meet new people and have a passion for helping our four-legged friends find the right home.

Greeter/Operator positions are available Monday - Saturday 8AM to 5 PM and Sunday 9AM to 4PM. Ability to work four-hour shifts would be preferred.

We always need volunteers for dog walking, cat socializing, getting our residents clean and ready for the new day, and making sure they go to bed at night all happy, clean, and watered.

Would you like to learn more? Please contact Andrea at 239.332.0364 ext. 303.
