Samson is a beautiful blue ticked catahoula boy that was picked up as a stray near Monterey, CA. He's approximately 2 years old & is a total character! He was obviously someone's house dog and knows basic commands. Samson is currently being fostered in Northern California where he loves to ride around on the tractor during the day while his foster dad is out at work and then romp around and play with their border collie at nighttime. Samson is a big loveable goofball who would love to have an active family of his own to dote on him :)
Samson does great with little critters too! He's done well with his foster mom's sugar gliders & cats, so he'd fit right into a small critter brood!

The Catahoula Leopard Hound or Catahoula Leopard Cur is an All-American breed. Originally the Native Americans of the Louisiana area bred their Red Wolf hunting dogs to the mastiff War Dogs left by the Spanish explorers. Eventually the offspring of these breedings became what is now known as the state dog of Louisiana, the Catahoula Leopard. The modern Catahoula is an assertive, energetic working breed developed by farmers and ranchers in the southeastern United States, primarily for herding and hunting. Catahoulas are known for their tenacious intelligence, protectiveness, loyalty and sense of humor.
Catahoulas range in color from solid black, to blue and brown merle, to white with patchwork. Eyes can be brown, green or light blue - also known as "glass" eyes. They have webbed feet, a tail that is curved and carried over the back, and a deep, full chest. Catahoulas usually weigh between 50 and 90 lbs.
Because of their working background, Catahoulas require lots of exercise and mental stimulation to be good companions. Many of the Catahoulas that we rescue from animal shelters throughout the United States were originally obtained by people who had good intentions, but are soon overwhelmed by their doggie's requirements. A Catahoula requires a minimum of one hour of running exercise each day, rain or shine. If the dog is kept outdoors, this is not a problem, but, if he is an indoor dog, he must get this exercise. Daily walks or runs in a yard are sufficient, but they are necessary. Since this dog has the inherent nature to herd and track game, he needs the exercise to release some of that pent up energy.
Please contact us to learn more about this fascinating breed.

Our adoption fee is $225. This helps offset the cost of vetting and care.
Limited ground transportation is available for out of state adoptions. Any airline fees or additional requirements are the responsibility of the adopting family.
An online adoption application can be submitted through our website Adoption Application. Please be sure to email or call us to confirm that the application was received.
We do not adopt out on a first come, first serve basis. We review all applications received and select the best home for the dog based on what we know of its personality, habits, and behaviors
