Interested in a puppy or kitten? Puppies and kittens are often adopted out very quickly, so many of them are not with us long enough to be featured on our web site. Please call the JCHSI shelter directly and we can let you know what is currently available for adoption!

JCHSI adoption booths are hosted by PETsMART in Tallahassee on Capital Circle NE, next to Home Depot. Visit our pets and volunteers every other Sunday (see specific dates below) from noon to 5 PM.
If there is a specific animal you are interested in, please call the shelter at (850) 342-0244 before the booth so that we can ensure that we bring that particular animal with us.Note: As a general rule, because of the limited space at our shelter, we do not hold any animals. Rather, they are adopted out to loving homes as those homes become available. Please call or visit us in Monticello or at PETsMART as soon as possible if you are interested in a particular animal.
Please keep in mind that even if you cannot adopt an animal right now, the Jefferson County Humane Society, Inc. needs volunteers for a variety of activities, including working adoption booths! Please feel free to contact us about joining our force of wonderful volunteers.

Jefferson County Humane Society, Inc. is non-profit organization that operates a shelter for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals. Additionally, we have a growing foster program thanks to caring members within our community.
We have a full-time shelter keeper and a growing group of volunteers who maintain the daily operations of the shelter and animal adoptions.
If you are interested in joining our efforts here in Jefferson County, please e-mail us at jchsi@netzero.net or call the shelter at (850) 342-0244. Family membership is $24 per year or membership is free to volunteers who provide service to our organization.
JCHSI operates on generous donations from businesses and caring individuals. We receive no local or state funding. All contributions are welcome!
JCHSI adoption fees:
Adoption fees include spaying or neutering of all animals at the shelter.
Adult dogs and cats will be current on their annual vaccinations and in good health.
Puppies and kittens who require additional vaccinations at the time of adoption are the financial responsibility of the adopter.
Our shelter hours of operation are Wednesday - Saturday, 1 - 6 PM.
Appointments are preferred, but not necessary.
