Our Featured Pet is Becky!

Becky was a very young mother when her owner's neighbors alerted animal control to her plight. Her tiny puppies were dying because they wandered away from their mom and the tether she was attached to prevented her from retrieving them. Two of her puppies survived and they were confiscated along with Becky. It was thought that the little family of three were part weimaraner, because of their pretty grey color. After a bath, it was discovered that they were, in fact, a beautiful white with subtle spots! Becky's puppies were too sick to survive the lack of care they had suffered their first six weeks of life, but Becky saved four newborn puppies whose own mom had rejected them. Becky nursed the newborns until they were old enough to be weaned. Her sweet, caring nature toward puppies carries over to people and children. Becky LOVES people! She would love nothing more than to find a forever home where she can shower her people with all the love she has to give, go for walks with her people, and play with her people. She wouldn't mind if her forever home had another dog, especially if they would like to have a playful sister. Becky has a heart of gold, an incredibly giving spirit, and the absolute sweetest nature.

Phoenix Animal Rescue is growing! Thanks to the support of animal lovers in our area, we have the funds to file for our 501(c)(3) status so every donation is tax-deductible. We are excited to kick off our fundraising efforts to help more dogs and puppies in the Alachua County, Florida area.
Please help us help them!

Our Mission

The mission of Phoenix Animal Rescue is to rescue, provide sanctuary, and ultimately re-home abandoned, stray, and neglected animals from county shelters and individuals who are no longer able or willing to care for their animals. We are a volunteer run, non-profit, no-kill, animal rescue foundation that is located near Gainesville, Florida. All of our animals are housed in foster homes where they are provided with an enormous amount of love and any medical attention that may be required to ensure that they are in good health prior to going to their forever home. Our organization's relatively small size facilitates a better understanding and relationship with each and every animal that comes into our care. We do not have a facility or office, but our dedicated team of volunteers and foster homes ensure that every adoption is handled professionally and with personal attention.

Pit Bulls

Phoenix Animal Rescue is dedicated to educating the public about pit bulls and bull breeds. For accurate information about pit bulls and bull breeds, please visit www.pbrc.net. Pit Bull Rescue Central is a wonderful resource for people who want to learn about pit bulls or have already gotten hooked on this fabulous breed. PAR understands there are many misconceptions about pit bulls, and the director of PAR, Michelle Dunlap, once believed the hype until she met and adopted her first pit bull, Chance. She thought he was a boxer mix until research led her to figure out his true breeding. Chance was "too nice" to be a pit bull! Through research, Michelle found out that pit bulls are fabulous and very misunderstood. She now dedicates much of her time to helping people understand pit bulls. The media plays a large role in this misunderstanding, as it mainly shows the sensationalized pit bull stories. These reports often leave out the vital information that the dog had been chained for years, neglected by people, suffered from intense boredom at the end of a chain or alone in a backyard, and developed overexcitablity as a result. When a powerful dog of any breed knocks down a child in excitablity, the results can be devastating, especially if the dog has very limited exposure to people. Check out www.pitbullproblem.tk for a fresh, albeit graphic, portrayal of pit bulls. Learn about pit bulls for yourself. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact PAR at PhoenixAnimalRescue@Yahoo.com. We'll share with you what years of research has taught us about pit bulls and bull breeds!

Adopting a Friend From Phoenix Animal Rescue

Why do we say you are "adopting" an animal instead of "buying" an animal? The addition of a pet into your family involves a lifetime of commitment much like the adoption of a human child. This commitment involves planning for your pet's future and making accomodations for your pet when moving, adding to your human family, etc. Remember, your animal family member can often live as long or longer than members of your human family with many of the same physical and emotional needs.

All of our adoptable pets have been vaccinated and treated for any parasites prior to adoption. The adoption fee for our dogs and puppies is generally $150 and covers all vaccinations, preventatives, testing, surgeries, and deworming while in foster care. All dogs and puppies are fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, dewormed, and vetted prior to adoption. On average, it costs $85 to fully vet our dogs and puppies to make them available for adoption. When we take in a dog or puppy who needs extra vet care, we do not increase the adoption fee but rely upon donations to help cover that cost. Any donation in addition to the adoption fee is greatly appreciated and 100% of your donation goes directly to vet or feed our dogs and puppies.

The Adoption Process

Our adoption process has many steps that need to be explained. In order to match the rescue dogs' needs with the best adoptive homes and environments, it is necessary for both the applicants and the rescue organization to complete the entire application process. Each step of the process will lead to the next if the applicant is being considered. The application process includes the following:
1. Complete the online application. The online application is available at www.phoenixanimalrescue.org. Click on the button that says Adoption Application. Please understand that regardless of how wonderful your family may be, we can not process an incomplete application. To be considered for approval, your application MUST include names and phone numbers of references, including your veterinarian, and landlord or association manager, if you are renting or live in a condominium.
2. Receive contact call/email from an Adoption or Foster Coordinator.
3. Have references checked.
4. Receive a home visit by one of our rescue contacts, in some cases.
5. Schedule a play date with the dog or puppy you are interested in. Our dogs do not live in kennels and we do not have a shelter to visit. All of our dogs live in private foster homes so your play date must be coordinated with the foster family and the Adoption Coordinator.
6. Sign an Adoption Contract and submit the required Adoption Fee.

Sometimes, there are many applicants wanting the same dog. In such situations, we try to make the best possible match based on the information we've gathered through each of the application steps. There are always many dogs to choose from, and more come and go each week. So sometimes the exact dog you're applying for might already have an adoption pending or may actually "fit" better in a different applicant's home. In this case, we try to interest you in someone else who is available that we think might be a good match according to your preferences on the application.

PAR's Petfinder site is kept as current as possible, and thankfully, these dogs are very desired, wanted & loved. We appreciate ALL applications and will treat each one as a priority. Processing of applications for dogs can take as many as a couple of weeks. Every one who helps run Phoenix Animal Rescue is a volunteer so we may not work as fast as some other rescues. We welcome emails to check on applications. Thank you for patience!

Phoenix Animal Rescue

Meet Our Adoptable Pets!

When you see a dog or puppy you'd like to meet, complete an application (available at our website: www.phoenixanimalrescue.org). This is your opportunity to tell us about you and how your new pet will fit into your family. Once we receive your application, it will be reviewed and you might be contacted for more information. All applications are reviewed carefully to ensure a great match for both you and the dog you are hoping to adopt. Please keep in mind that it could take up to a week for your application to be processed, as we are all volunteers working with many dogs and puppies.

Once your application has been approved, we will schedule a play date with you, your family, and the dog or puppy you hope to adopt. If you have dogs, you'll need to bring them to the play date to make sure everyone gets along. If you have roommates, they all need to come to the play date as well. We want to make sure everyone in the dog's new home wants to bring the dog into their lives. If all goes well at the play date, you sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee so you can take your new dog or puppy home! You'll receive your new pet's medical records, training tips, housetraining information, pet insurance information, and help integrating your new pet into your life. Please keep in mind that some dogs and puppies have multiple applicants and each approved applicant gets a chance to meet the dog or puppy. We do not take deposits or "hold" dogs or puppies and we do not ship animals.
