Our Featured Pet

BEAU

Meet Beau, a very handsome Neutered male Dalmatian who we believe to be about 3-4 yrs old. Beau was found lying in a field in northern Sussex County. He had a choker chain around his neck, was very dirty with a few cuts and scratches, and about 20 lbs. underweight. He was taken in by a foster family in Georgetown, and with a bath, good food, lots of TLC and loving, he is now one handsome dude. Well, Beau has been adopted to a WONDERFUL home in Felton, DE where he has a new sister named Dottie. He is Mama's boy, that is for sure and is loving his new home!!!

News

Our Italian Dinner Fundraiser, held on April 12th at the Milton Fire Hall Banquet Room, was a big success. The food was wonderful and the company even better. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped us raise some money to cover medical expenses for our spotted (and unspotted) babies. And to those who couldn't attend, we hope you can make it next year. We will be at the Roadhouse Steak Joint on May 12th on Coastal Highway Rehoboth Beach, DE. Dal Rescue of DE receives 10% of every dinner sold that night, so come on down and have a great meal and help the rescue at the same time. Dal Rescue Members will be on hand from 6-8. We will also be at the KidsFest at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington, DE on June 14th. It is a great, inexpensive day for kids and there is plenty there for the adults too. We will have a few of our Dalmatians with us for petting and loving, so come and see us.

Who We Are

Dalmatian Rescue of Delaware, Inc. is a small group of people living in the state of Delaware who love Dalmatians and want to help them in any way we can. We are 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. Our main goal is to rescue Dalmatians and other breeds from shelters and abuse/abandonment situations and find them loving permanent homes where they will never be unwanted again. We foster them in our homes until a suitable home can be found, evaluate them, get them the medical care they need and give them lots and lots of love. However, we also have other, very important goals. One is to educate the public on the importance of spay/neuter for all dogs and cats. Thousands of unwanted dogs and cats are killed every year because there are not enough homes for them. Spaying and neutering your pet not only helps reduce the pet overpopulation, but it also is better for your pet's health. The other goal that is near and dear to our hearts is the destruction of deaf Dal puppies. It is a requirement of all breeeders who belong to the Dalmatian Club of America that all pups born deaf be destroyed at 5 weeks of age or younger. We hope to change this ruling by making the public aware that this is happening, and with the media's help, introducing the public to the many endearing qualities of the deaf Dal. We have only been in existence since July 2004, but have plenty of experience in rescue. Two of our members were heavily involved in Dal rescue with another organization, one of them since 1999.

Adopting a friend

We require all potential adopters to complete our adoption questionnaire, which is sent to them upon request. All applicants are screened, as we do home checks, and require vet references where applicable and personal references. Our adoption fee is $200.00, which helps offset expenses we have incurred. We get many inquiries on each dog up for adoption, and many people want to meet the dog. While we understand that the people inquiring would really like to see the dog in person, because of time restraints, we can only set up meetings with people who have filled out our adoption questionnaire and been approved to adopt.

Come Visit Us!

Since we all foster the rescued dals in our personal homes, we do not have a home base of operations. However we do have fundraisers each year and we try to attend several local functions such as the Kid's Fest where you can meet and greet our beautiful Dalmatians. We hope to meet you soon.
