Pet of the MonthKrystal is our pet of the month. She is an adorable gray/silver tiger short haired spayed female. UTD on vaccines, litter box trained, inside only. She is good with other cats, having come from a colony and is tolerant of most dogs. She is still somewhat shy with people, but once she gets to know you, she makes your lap her permanent home. To adopt this sweet kitty, please email Wbrown521@aol.com or call 203-982-2577.
News
The Bridgeport Cat Project meets the first Tuesday of each month. We welcome anyone who would like to volunteer (call (203) 380-1003 for directions). Please bring a bag of dry or canned cat food to help feed the feral colony's in Bridgeport. If you would like to be on our mailing list, please email your name and address to Wbrown521@aol.com.
Who We Are
The Bridgeport Cat Project is not a shelter, but a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program which is used by rescue groups worldwide. Since the Projects inception in 1994, we have neutered approximately 4000 male and female cats, eliminating the needless suffering of hundreds of thousands of their potential offspring. The year 2000 found us especially busy, having altered 500+ cats. The Cat Project currently runs with the help of 10 volunteers, who trap and transport feral cats to veterinarians and back to their original colony, oversee the 24 hour hotline in weekly shifts, foster recuperating cats until they can be returned to the wild, coordinate fund-raising events and foster cats that can be adopted to a prospective owner. We have received modest grants from the City of Bridgeport's Health Department so that we can help control the spread of diseases like rabies, but we rely heavily on donations from private citizens.
Adopting a friend
Among the feral cats we trap, we do find some very sweet adoptable cats. They are altered, vaccinated and socialized so they can be adopted to a prospective owner. We require potential adopters to fill out an adoption questionaire to assure that the cat they are interested in will have a good home, and a donation of $75 (kittens) and $65 (adults) is required to cover the cost of their care.
