About TAG

The Trumbull Animal Group, (TAG) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization formed in 1999. We work closely with the Trumbull Animal Control Officer to provide a variety of services to lost and/or abandoned animals admitted to the Trumbull Shelter. We make every effort to assist in locating permanent, loving homes for all adoptable animals. The purpose of this non-profit organization is to work to further the cause of the humane and ethical treatment of animals. To this end, the organization looks to raise public awareness of the problems facing animals in the area, will work to reduce the incidents of animal neglect and abuse, seek to facilitate in the adoption of animals and raise funds for the upkeep and betterment of the animals at Trumbull Animal Shelter.

Wonderful pictures and videos of our dogs are due to the talent and generosity of Virginia Silano, president of rescue group, FOBAS. Please click on both the TAG dog link and the FOBAS links to see all of the dogs available for adoption in Trumbull.

Adopting a New Friend

Adopting a Dog

Visit us during our regular business hours or, if you prefer, make an appointment to see a dog. The shelter may be closed during normal hours if the animal control officer is out on an emergency call. Unfortunately, online applications for dogs are not available.

Adopting a Cat

A few cats are housed at the shelter but many more are kept in foster homes in Trumbull and the surrounding towns. Make an appointment with our Cat Adoption Advisor to see the cats. If you wish to you can email a completed Cat Adoption Application to tagtrumbull@juno.com. Our Cat Adoption Advisor will review the application and get in touch with you.

Other Adoptions

Periodically we have smaller animals available for adoption. Check the site frequently for updates to our adoptable pets listings. We also hold open house adoption events at the shelter usually once a month. View our Adoption Event calendar to see the upcoming scheduled events. Unfortunately online applications are not available.

Get Involved

We always welcome donations of dog food. Pedigree is preferred as we try to keep the dogs on a consistent diet. In addition we also need chew toys of all kinds to keep the dogs occupied. The cat people also welcome donations of cat food, cat toys and clay litter.

Any donations can be dropped off at the shelter during regular business hours.

We at TAG continually work with our dogs, so be sure to read the updates so that you can see the progress made by the dogs. We would like to think they wouldn't be around long enough for an update but that's not always the case. We continue to try our best to make sure we get a proper home for the dogs and any other impounded animals. Volunteers help by walking and socializing the dogs, keeping the shelter clean and organized, fundraising, etc. We also create newsletters, brochures, and posters to keep members and the public informed of our activities and take pictures of the animals available for adoption and post these picture here on Petfinder and in the Trumbull Times.

Often, animals admitted to the shelter require non-emergency medical care. Funds raised through membership dues, contributions and fund raising events pay for needed immunizations, spaying and neutering, and non-emergency illness and injuries. TAG has also purchased supplies and equipment for the shelter to improve care of the animals. Through the combined efforts of TAG and the Trumbull Canine Shelter staff, our four legged friends are well cared for while waiting for a permanent home.
