"And even though they never trained her as a puppy and then got mad at her for what she didn't know; even though they never had her spayed and then abandoned her when she had pups; even though they took her into their home (she certainly knew what a bed is for!) and probably let her sleep with the kids and then left her to live or die by the side of a highway; even through all that and more, she still waits for them in the quiet of the evening... The simple truth is that a creature like her could never in a million years begin to understand such betrayal, because it isn't in her... It isn't in any of them." www.BestFriends.org

Who We Are

Pawtectors is a small not-for-profit, no-kill, animal rescue who is operated only by our dedicated volunteers. We are a small group of volunteers who work hard to place abandoned, abused, or shelter dogs on death row into new, loving homes. We are a multi-state rescue. We work with very high-kill pounds all over with dogs and puppies that do not have much chance at living more than a week after arriving there... and we do take in owner surrenders. Adoption fee includes age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, HW test/prevention/treatment, spay/neuter (typically at 6 months and older), transport to CT., and any other needed vet care. We strive to socialize, train, and care for our animals the best we can until they are placed into their forever homes. All of our dogs are temperament tested and we work on all of their issues.

We are a network of foster homes, meaning we do not have a facility. All people interested in an animal must first fill out an application and be pre-approved before setting up a meeting.

Submitting an application does not guarantee you will receive a rescued dog. We reserve the right to deny any one to adopt a dog/pup without explanation. PLEASE note: Please allow 2-3 days for us to process your application. If your application has not been approved you may not recieve a response as we do not have the time to get back to everyone who applies for our dogs. We do not have a sufficient number of rescue dogs to place one with each applicant that applies and must be very selective in their placement to assure they are in their adoptive homes for the remainder of their lifetimes. Please understand we have very little staff and don't have time to answer general questions that can be answered by reading this information. We do not respond to e-mails that are asking things that are already noted on this site or in the pet notes of the dog/puppy you are looking at. We ask all adopters to be prepared to take their new family member home at the time the adoption is completed! We are a small rescue. We CANNOT hold your pet for you while you go on vacation or prepare the house for your new family member. This should be done before you come to adopt a dog or cat. Please understand, if we did that, we would save far less animals because of a lack of space or resources.

Adopting A Friend

If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please e-mail as soon as possible. We will get back to you as soon as we can, typically applications are sent out every other day. To adopt an animal, you must fill out an application and must be pre-approved before meeting any of the animals and all viewings are by appointment only or at an adoption event. All animals require an adoption fee which covers the cost of any vet care they have recieved while in our care. Adoption fee includes age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, HW test/prevention/treatment, spay/neuter (typically at 6 months and older), transport to CT., and any other needed vet care.

Please note that the adoption fees may vary by the amount of vet care, medications, grooming, or other treatment each dog needs.

We occasionally have cats and other animals available, so check back frequently!

We are in desperate need of foster homes!!!

Foster a dog by opening your home and heart to a dog in need. By allowing us to temporarily place a dog with you, you save the life of an otherwise homeless animal. Foster care consists of providing a safe, loving, temporary home for a dog until a permanent adoptive home can be found. All dogs are screened for health and temperament before entering our program. We can only rescue as many dogs as we have foster homes! We provide food, basic supplies, veterinary care, and guidance. You provide the love, training and home. The dog provides you with love, joy, and the satisfaction of having saved a life. Be prepared to foster the dog until a permanent home can be found! Adoptions could take weeks or even months!

WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF FOSTER HOMES!

If you would like to foster a dog for us, please get in touch as soon as possible, for some it could mean the difference between life and death! All parties interested in being a foster home must fill out a foster application. Please e-mail for more information!

Please note that fostering a dog/puppy does not mean you will always have first option to adopt, although foster homes are allowed to adopt if they are the best adoptive match for the dog. Foster homes are required to pay an adoption fee. All potential adopters must pay the adoption fee to offset medical costs, food, transport and other expenses.

"This stray female Chow mix was a bundle of nervous energy. She was submissive but distracted, unfocused and jittery. She couldn't handle the overstimulation of the shelter enviroment and deteriorated quickly, becoming more scared, her energy level nearly frantic. "It's just so stressful in here," sighed a shelter worker.

No one came to claim her, and after four days, the decision was made.

We have made dogs to be our most loyal friends, and they live that role, to the very end. And so they go willingly, with trust. They cooperate when the leash is hooked to their collar, and follow obediently on the last walk they will ever take. She didn't know what would happen to her, but she went. Willingly. With trust... a trust betrayed first by the family who lost her, and then again by a society who can do no better than offer this as their answer." Taken from 'Shelter Dogs' by Traer Scott.
