Our Featured Pet...

Sally Ann

Domestic Medium Hair, Black and White Mix
Size: Small
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
I.D: AF-8

Notes: Sally Ann was an owned cat that was abandoned by her family when they didn't want her anymore. They basically kicked her outside after owning her for a few months & stopped feeding her. We came across her & took her into our foster program. She wasn't in very good condition, so we took her to the vet & started feeding her some good food. After a few weeks & some love, she was ready for adoption. She is somewhat starved for attention, and loves being pet. She's a grumbler, so she growls like she's mad even when it's obvious that she loves being pet. She likes to play with anything, and she likes attention. She's a big fan of being pet & scratched on the chin, and although she'll sit with you & keep you company, she's not much of a cuddler. After her initial adjustment period, she will sleep on the bed with you. Sally Ann is also fine with having some extra space & just being independant at times. She's spayed, negative for both FeLV and FIV, and she has been dewormed & treated for fleas. She is current on her vaccines and will be microchipped before adoption. She lives indoors right now & loves it! She has had some exposure to dogs, and although she tolerates them, we think she would rather live without them. DOB~4/04

News for November

At the moment, the only cats we have in our foster program are the ones up for adoption on our site. We are hoping to expand our foster base and increase the amount of cats and kittens we can take into our program. On occasion, we do have outdoor cats looking for a safe and appropriate barn or ranch home (they are social, but just lack indoor experience), and sometimes we have feral cats looking for relocation to a safe and suitable outdoor home (not usually interested in human contact, but need a safe place to live). We are still continuing our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts in feral cat colonies in parts of Yolo County; and we often bring young feral kittens from those colonies into our foster program rather than TNR'ing them. New foster kitties will be posted on our PetFinder account as they become available for adoption, so check periodically to see what we have. You can visit our adoptable cats and kittens at the PetSmart in Elk Grove (on Laguna Blvd.) on most Sundays from 10:00am-3:00pm. Please check the calendar on our website for exact days & times of adoption events. The number of animals we are able to help is directly related to the amount of foster space we have, so if you have any fostering experience or would like to begin learning please contact us ASAP (by phone or email). It is a very rewarding experience & can work out perfectly for someone who is not able to own their own pet long-term.

If you are interested in adopting from us, please note that you must complete and send in our adoption application before we can consider you for a final adoption. Our kittens and cats are adopted for a $65 adoption fee (adoption fee varies for feral cats being relocated or outdoor cats being placed), which helps to off-set our cost to spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinate and deworm them, as well as test them for FeLV/FIV and provide foster care. We DO NOT DO same-day adoptions, because we feel same day adoptions increase our chances of placing our cats/kittens with impulse adopters. We believe that it is best to allow potential adopters some time to be sure they are ready for the commitment of adopting a new family member, this also gives the new family an opportunity to adjust their home for the new addition and create a cat friendly environment. Our adoption policy & procedures are outlined on our website, http://www.feralfeline.org where you can also download and complete an adoption application. Applications can be emailed to info@feralfeline.org. It's our goal to save lives and make a difference.

Who We Are

The Feral Feline Organization is a non-profit group that started out at the UC Davis campus but has since branched out. We are almost 5 years old (November 2008!), and would love to continue to grow, enlarge our network and expand our efforts of helping the feral cat population. We are currently recognized as a California tax exempt organization and are in the process of becoming a federally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit. We are currently working to trap-neuter-return (TNR) adult feral cats in Davis and surrounding areas. We also trap and rescue feral kittens, socialize and/or bottle-raise them, and adopt them out. Our efforts to TNR adult feral cats allow us to screen them for any feline diseases, vaccinate them, and alter them so that they can not continue to reproduce. All of this reduces the spread of diseases and overpopulation of feral cat colonies as well as ensuring that people's outdoor pets are safer and healthier. Our efforts to remove feral kittens from colonies allow us to socialize them so that they can become loving members of people's families instead of growing up with a difficult life out in nature. Please visit our website for more details on our organization and the programs we offer.
